Guest guest
Hello to all of you SCD believers It has been many years since I have logged on but I have been on the SCD (with a few modifications because of my illness) since the early 90s. Just wanted to drop a few words of hope and encouragement to all of you seeking some relief from the savagery of digestive difficulty. Beginning in the early 80s, I was quite ill with an unknown and undiagnosed illness which made it nearly impossible to eat and then digest food. It was a blessing when I found Elaine and the diet. I survived for a long time because of her and the advice she gave me. The SCD longisland listserv was also an extraordinary source of support for a long time. Since then I have finally found a brilliant team of doctors, had a firm diagnosis, a bone marrow transplant and daily chemo for over three years. I am the lone survivor from an original study group of 21 Canadians (in a much larger international study - for which I have no info) and while eating and " keeping " what I eat is still one of my MAJOR challenges, it is eating according to Elaine's original diet which has a great deal to do with my continued survival. The diet works. It is FAR better than death regardless of how difficult many may find it to follow. Stick to it. Greetings to those of you who have been around for a while on this list and may remember me. I have not forgotten you. I have not forgotten you. , It's good to see your phosphors again! I do remember you from the Long Island List! And glad to know you're still with us. I had cancer surgery last year, and all my doctors were amazed at how well I healed from what my oncologist called a " challenging " operation. I'm certain SCD was a major factor in the healing! — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Well hello Marilyn! You make me laugh - " no human children " . I too am so pleased to see you alive and kicking. I am constantly amazed at how many people with " undiagnosed IBD " related issues find a way to cope with SCD as an anchor and THEN - the diagnosis when it comes is VERY challenging. I discussed this with my lead doc on the study team and she offered that people who are self-directed enough to actually try, and live the life, of an SCDer are also the ones who are mentally, emotionally and intellectually strong enough to face a very difficult diagnosis and come out the other side smiling. Oh, the journey may be stormy but - here we are. Seeing your note has made my day. Memories of the day - when we had Elaine to ride herd on a VERY fussy bunch will stay with me always. And woof, woof to your kids! Warmest regards

Oh, the journey may be stormy but - here we are. Well, I have another set of labs to do on Thursday, and will hope they come back negative, also. I am planning my victory trip for either 2013 or 2014 -- a tour on the Rocky Mountaineer, in the Canadian Rockies. Including at least one run through the Spiral Tunnels near 's Pass. And some time in the old Canadian Pacific hotels. It's a great thing to look forward to -- and to know that I will be healthy for the trip when it occurs. Indeed, here we are! I'm having a data retrieval malfunction here. Did you ever say what your actual diagnosis was? Seeing your note has made my day. Memories of the day - when we had Elaine to ride herd on a VERY fussy bunch will stay with me always. And woof, woof to your kids! Oh, yes -- I miss Elaine every time there's a question I can't answer from my own experience! I miss her wit and energy and compassion. And the fact that when I did something wrong, she never told me " Told you so! " BTW, if I had found SCD about 30 years ago, I might have children -- turned out to be the case with a friend of mine. She'd been told she probably would never be able to get pregnant without major medical intervention, or that if she did, she wouldn't be able to cary to term without MMI. Four months on SCD, and she was pregnant. Six years later, she has two healthy boys. Ah well, I love the fur children -- even if hotels are less accommodating of them! — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
