Guest guest
I recently got my vitamin D results back: 15.2 ug/L (10-60), although in the UK this is apparently considered fine, elsewhere it is " severely deficient " . I mention this because I am concerned my body might not be in a position to heal itself properly, and I am worried I could end up making myself sensitive to new foods. I have been having slight stomach aches and the other day noticed blood when I wiped (Though occasional blood began after I took antifungal supplements about a year ago). I have been getting lots of white-brown mucus like stuff coming out, I thought perhaps this could be Candida. Apparently diarrhoea and stomach pains can be caused by Candida " die-off " . I don't know much about it however and am somewhat sceptical. Today I have just had horrible stomach ache and diarrhoea. I am coeliac and at worst would have diarrhoea like this once or twice a year. The foods I have tried introducing recently have been butter and apples, and for lunch before I had more salt than I normally would. I never had issues with these foods before the diet, is it normal to become more sensitive when re-introducing foods? Will this episode have set back my healing significantly? I will try and avoid butter and apples for a white and reintroduce them very gently this time. Perhaps I understimated how diarrhoeic fruits can be. Thanks again Matt
Guest guest
Matt How long have you been on SCD? Are you in your first 6 months on SCD? It is common for nearly everyone who is in their first year or two on SCD to experience ups and downs, notice changes in their bowel movements. We all go through a lot of de-toxing in addition to the healing phases. I don't think this episode will have set-back your healing, but you will probably need to fall back to more "safer" foods for you, those that are easiest to digest. Are you cooking the apples? I have to limit myself to one serving of a cooked fruit and one serving of a diluted fruit juice per day -- now, that is. During my first 3 years on SCD, due to having a major candida overgrowth, I had to limit myself to one serving of fruit or juice every other day. Took a while to get my gut ecology back into balance. It is also normal for those of us with digestive disorders to go through periods where our digestions just do not tolerate foods that previously didn't cause problems. It is all part of healing and detoxing. The best thing to do is fall back to softer, easy-to-digest foods for a week or two, then reintroduce one of the suspect foods and see how things develop. I found I needed to also consider supplements along with foods when I was trying to figure out why my digestive symptoms flared. Half of the time the problem turned out to be a supplement or medication. Just hang in there, take things slowly, give your body time to heal. By the second year on SCD you should be feeling a whole lot better! Kim M. SCD 5 years >>>>>>>>>> Will this episode have set back my healing significantly? Guest guest
Hi Kim, yes I'm only in my first couple of weeks actually. I will try to slow down a bit I think. Making my first batch of yoghurt right now, hopefully I will tolerate that so I'll have something to snack on and make more interesting meals. I had quite a lot of cooked apple on one day, and in recent days I had eaten one or two raw ones. I was a bit concerned I may have been constipated; I certainly fixed that issue heh. I had been tolerating smaller amounts before, perhaps I increased things too dramatically. I've been taking Kirkman Vitamin C and Calcium, I think they were alright last time I checked, but I will look at them again. Have been OK since this one episode though, hopefully I can keep things under control. Cheers Matt > > Matt > > How long have you been on SCD? Are you in your first 6 months on SCD?
