Guest guest
I heated milk for yogurt yesterday at 4 pm, planning to make it into yogurt when I came home at 10 pm. I heated it to the right temperature, covered it, and left it out. Unfortunately, I fell asleep putting my little one to bed, and just came downstairs and found the milk, still covered and still out. Do I need to start again heating it? Throw it out? Use as is (I'm hoping it's this one!)? Thanks, Ellen dd 3 yrs SCD for Crohn's. Never had this happen before@! Guest guest
Hi Ellen, I am not an expert, but my advice is or to use it like is it now, but to use the yogurtt only for cooking ( sweets, ice cream) or if you realy need to eat the good things from yogurt, use another milk. Hope will help, Good luck! Ramona > > I heated milk for yogurt yesterday at 4 pm, planning to make it into yogurt when I came home at 10 pm. Guest guest
You definitely can't use it as it. I'd be reallywary about whether it is okay or not and check it.But if you decide to use it again, you have to reheat. Guest guest
If it were me I would throw it out, in fact, I wouldn't even keep it out for 6 hours (4pm to use at 10pm?). After heating the milk it must be cooled quickly and mixed with the starter right away and put in the yogurt maker. Heating milk up and leaving it out only allows bacteria to grow in it. It's important that everything be sterile when making yogurt. Better safe than sorry. Guest guest
Seems like it would be okay to me...if you heated it before, technically it shouldn't have any bacteria in it since you covered it. And it wouldn't be refrigerated anyways in the yogurt maker. Just my opinion though, I'm not an expert. If there's any doubt at all I wouldn't use it, because it's not worth getting sick!AlyssaI heated milk for yogurt yesterday at 4 pm, planning to make it into yogurt when I came home at 10 pm. For future reference, Alyssa, you can leave the milk in the yogurt maker unrefrigerated without problems because it has the yogurt culturesin it, so it will turn into yogurt. Who knows what bacterial cultures could be getting into unrefrigeratedthat is not turning into yogurt. Could make you quite ill. MaraJust my opinion though, I'm not an expert.
