Avocados and GAS question

I have narrowed down avocados as a big no-no for me. It took a month and eating

them three separate times to recognize this. They completely bring back my

symptoms, including constipation (not going at all!) and gas that could get me a

job as a foghorn.

Does anyone know why avocados would be such a problem? I can eat all the

roasted fennel, roasted red peppers and spinach I want.

Hi ,

Avocado is a high-carb fruit. Fruit is a type of sugar therefore causes gas if

you have candida and/or an abundance of bad bacteria in your gut. Avocados give

me heartburn as they are so high in fat. This may be the reason for your

foghorn problem :o) Just avoid them for now.

Thanks . After 3+ months on the diet I have not eaten bananas because

these are the problems I thought they would cause. I might be right and will

wait longer to eat both avocados and bananas.

Bananas give me C. problems also. In fact so does honey...high fat foods give

me heartburn and C. problems.

I hope you will be able to tolerate them later on.

I wish I could do bananas!!! They are so good and filling.

Take care,

Hi ,

Avocados are actually very low carb. Many people have difficulty with them due

to the high fiber, not the carbs. Cooking them has helped some people.

This is from LowCarbohydrate.net:

" But the true, undying low carb potassium champion is the avocado. All avocados

are great, but if you can, buy the little, rough-skinned California avocados;

they're a tad lower carb than the big, smooth-skinned Florida variety. One

California avocado contains 15 grams of carbohydrate, but 12 grams of that is

fiber, for a usable carb count of just 3 grams! And for those three grams,

you'll get a whopping 877 milligrams of potassium. Avocados are also a great

source of monounsaturated fats, the same heart-healthy fats found in olive oil -

a real nutritional bargain, all the way around. "

Thank you for the info on avocados. I have to say it surprises me. I was

sure that I had read they were high fat/high carb fruit. High fiber usually

doesn't give me heartburn... Anyway, I will try cooking them. Perhaps it's the

high potassium content that I cannot tolerate. I say that because I can't have

bananas either and they are high in potassium.

Thanks again,
