Guest guest
I have a 7 y.o. and 19 y.o. daughter on SCD. I've read the GAPS book, Gut and Psychology Syndrome book by Dr. Natasha -McBride MD. In her book she recommends the BTVC Scd diet, she says " why recreate the wheel " . However, she says that pasturized juices should not be allowed because the natural sugar changes to forbidden sugar caused by pasturization. The grape juice had been a treat/incentive for my youngest daughter but if its counteractive I guess I need to remove it from her diet. Does anyone have any knowledge on this subject that could clarify our juice dilemma?
Guest guest
Hello whoever you are... Welch's concentrated grape juide is SCD legal. It's the only legal grape juice. Another SCD legal juice is Tropicana orange juice. Cheers, > > The grape juice had been a treat/incentive for my youngest daughter but if its counteractive I guess I need to remove it from her diet. Guest guest
Hi ,The pasturization issue is an interesting thought, I hadn't heard that before. I also had difficulty at first with the Welches Grape Juice, and I know others have expressed problems too on this site. I think it's one of those things you will have to try and see if she can tolerate it. Be sure to water it down by half if you try it. I like it with sparkling mineral water, but I have to be careful how much I drink.Danny Kovacs1 year SCD20 years Crohns-colitis/ pouchitis17 years total colectomy w j-pouchPosted by: "juliefreyer@..." juliefreyer@... juliefreyer@...Wed May 13, 2009 5:25 am (PDT)I have a 7 y.o. and 19 y.o. daughter on SCD. Guest guest
Hi - Unpasteurized juice can be a problem due to Salmonella/ E.coli. This is especially dangerous for children. I don't know what your book means by pasteurization changing the sugar to a forbidden sugar... Did they say what sugar is supposed to be created by pasteurization? Commonly, people who prefer unpasteurized juices do so because of nutrition loss associated with heating - I have never heard of sugar alteration from heating. Not to say that it is impossible. Conceivably sugar alcohols could be produced by heating - I have just never heard of it. > Posted by: " juliefreyer@...
