But I'm confused...if the mucus strings form in the intestines of celiac and IBS sufferers wouldn't the internal cleanse be a good thing? Also, I assume the Brat diet is an elimination type program, but I don't know any details though. Michele 4b. Mucus forms in the colon when the colon is irritated, as in what happens with irritable bowel and, yes, celiac disease. Also, I would imagine, by using laxatives and other purging agents (mentioned this to my gi, and he agreed about the colon irritation from laxatives).Have you tried the BRAT diet? Yahoo!
