Guest guest
I'm cautious about using my debit card online only because any breach to that number can wipe out all our money. My debit card number has already been compromised once. Someone got it somehow* and used it for online gambling in the Bahamas. Believe me, I'm not a gambler and don't have the skin complexion for the Bahamas. [i think even online to the Bahamas would probably give me a sunburn. (But I digress.)] I have credit cards, so for me it's not an issue. But if I didn't have any credit cards, I would either: - get a green dot reloadable MC/Visa, or - set up a separate checking account to go with a debit card. Let THAT checking account be vulnerable and reloadable. Esther * We don't know when or how the card security was breached. It may or may not have been online. It may have been at a restaurant. It may even have been at a retail store. At a restaurant or a retail store, your card is vulnerable. Any time the card is out of your sight, the card is vulnerable. I have a family member whose job involves credit card security and the issues that go along with that. Believe me, there are far more ways for a card to be compromised than I ever dreamed possible! And, all told, I've had it happen to me about four times already. Only once with my debit card, though! That scared me silly. I've been ULTRA careful with my debit card ever since then. I check its activity history nearly EVERY DAY, and report anything suspect to the bank IMMEDIATELY. Even as little as a " temp charge for $1.00 " is a sign of BAD BAD NEWS. That's a fraudster just checking to see if the number is a real number or not. But all my rambling has nothing to do with gluten. Oh, I think my debit card is gluten free, but I've not nibbled it lately to check. > > But it is becoming harder to order things with out a credit card and the > debit cards acts just like a credit card except you have to have the money > in your account. > >
