Hi Sue,

I'm also in San . I went to see Dr. Ted Guarino. Who are you

going to? my 7 mo old has an appt with the Helmut folks in Palo Alto

on Monday. I'm pretty sure she'll need one although the neuro says

she doesn't.

Hi Marina,

Thanks for your info!

I am going to see Dr. Keswani tomorrow. This will be

our first time seeing her, I don't think she is a

specialist. I met a mom at the library who

recommended Dr. Keswani, her daughter is wearing a

helmet right now. So, how do you like Dr. Guarino?

Hi Everyone,

The doctor that we seen yesterday confirmed that my 6

months old has Torticollis & Plagiocephaly. We will

be going to see an occupational therapy next week for

the tort. The doctor also gave us prescription to

CIRS. However, she did mention that since my son is

already 6 months old, the band wouldn't help much. My

husband is against it after hearing what the doctor

said. I was wondering if there are late starters who

have successful experience?

Thanks again for all your helpful advice!!

HI Sue,

When our daughter was 4 months old, I noticed flatness and alerted the doctor who said that we should alternate which side she slept on, and that we would revisit the issue at 6 months. At her 6 month appointment, the doctor pointed the flatness out and diagnosed her with positional plagiocephaly. He referred us to Cranial Tech and we made an appointment to be seen. They said that our daughter was mild/moderate with the plagio and that she would be a good candidate for the band. We made the decision to band her, and when we got her fitted she was 7 months old. After almost 16 weeks, my daughter graduated and the results were great!!! I don't think that 6 months is too late to band, some children are banded at 14-16 months, even later! I think you would get great results. Go with your gut on this one... If you need any more information/support, this group is definitely the place to get it!!

Good luck,

Toni

The doctor is misinformed -- for most every type of molding device, helmet or band -- I believe all of them work pretty well within the first year. Check out the pictures here on the plagiocephaly website with your husband. Molding treatment does work -- and some devices can even be used after a year old (specifically DOCband has a good record for this, but others, too).Take care.(old timer) -- son brn 11/99, DOCband grad 10/00PSMy son had a very long, narrow headshape (this was not plagiocephaly, it was not asymetric -- his shape was called scaphocephalic or dolichocephalic), and he did not have a slope in the back of his head. Instead his head jutted straight back, and he couldn't even lie flat on hit back without the back of his head forcing his chin to his chest. A DOCband made specifically for his head shape gave him the width and slope he needed. He wore the band from 7 months until 11 mon

ths, graduating a few weeks before his first b-day.>------- Original Message ------->From : soon yee[mailto:sykuek@...]>Sent : 3/7/2008 2:06:55 PM>To : Plagiocephaly >Cc : >Subject : RE: Re: need advice!-San CA>>Hi Everyone,The doctor that we seen yesterday confirmed that my 6months old has Torticollis & Plagiocephaly. the neurosurgeon we went to said 4-6 months is the ideal age. They will not

band before then so I think your child is at an ideal age to band.

Your doctor is not very well informed, but at least you got the Rx.

Some say 1 yrs is late to start, but babies start as late as 18 mo or

even older and get some correction. 6 mo is a great time to start, I'm

sure CIRS will confirm this. My daughter got her band from CIRS at 5 mo.

Hi Sue, My son started his Starband at 5 1/2 months with CIRS in Palo Alto (Bob was our othorist and we saw Amy at the end of our treatment), and he went from 12mm difference to 3.6 ( I think, you can't believe it now, but you will at some point forget) in almost 5 mths. He did have a huge growth spurt at 6 mths which took us to 5.9, however he had slow growth up until the last month where he had another growth spurt. you CAN have change and you can have successful change at 6 mths, it might take a little longer.....but you WILL see results. Have you talked to CIRS directly about what progress you might see? Mother to , Starband graduate 5/23/07, and Jordan currently 6 wks and being watched like a hawk!soon yee <sykuek@...> wrote: Hi Everyone,The doctor that we seen yesterday confirmed that my 6months old has Torticollis & Plagiocephaly. We willbe going to see an occupational therapy next week forthe tort. The doctor also gave us prescription toCIRS. However, she did mention that since my son isalready 6 months old, the band wouldn't help much. Myhusband is against it after hearing what the doctorsaid. I was wondering if there are late starters whohave successful experience? Thanks again for all your helpful advice!!Sue--- Walsh <kew1976sbcglobal (DOT) net> wrote:>

Hi ,

Sorry to jump in here. After reading your response to

Dawn, I can't help but wonder if we should go ahead

with the helmet.

My son is 8.1 mm. We are doing repo and seeing PT,

planning to go back for another scan in a month time

to see if there's improvement. The reason that I am

hesitating is that my insurance UHC PPO won't cover

the cost. Would you mind sharing with me how did you

win the appeal with UHC?

Thanks!!

Sue
