Guest guest
Well, we took Eli in to see Dr. Ehret at Bridge in Tacoma (Washington). He is a cranial-facial plastic surgeon. We had been waiting since Eli was 4.5 months old to see him to see if Eli was a candidate for helmet therapy. He said that Eli has a " perfect " head and there is definitely no need for a helmet/band. He said that he did have some flatness at the top back of his head, but that with time, it should fill in. He was very nice and kept emphasizing what a perfect little guy he was...he said he would even hesitate to say he had plagio/brachy. I did come out of the appt relieved...I was not looking forward to having Eli in a helmet, but would do anything to make him all better. So, we will just keep repositioning him and hopefully get the top back of his head rounder. We have been repo'ing him for 2 months with great results. He has his 6 month appt next week, so we'll see what his pediatrician says then. I honestly thought Eli would need a helmet...had no idea the doctor would say his head looked great. Ah! Am I just paranoid...ha ha!! I have posted an updated side picture of Eli...can you all take a look and see what you think? Thanks much!! Guest guest
Hello ; The back of the head does look pretty flat. Did Eli spend lot of time in a bouncy seat or car seat ? Do you have a picture of Eli's head taken from the top view of the skull? Guest guest
Hi , I looked at the pic and it is sort of like my daughter after her band. she had brachy and rounded out quite a bit but still has some flatness. If it was really bad it would just be flat from his neck up. instead he has a lot of roundness above the neck, but some flatness up higher. Do you have a top view? is his head symmetric? If so then I think it looks good (of course I'm no expert). you can see sydney's after here: http://health.ph./group/Plagiocephaly/photos/view/e3ac?b=39 take care. -christine sydney 16 mo starband grad > > Well, we took Eli in to see Dr. Ehret at Bridge in Tacoma > (Washington). Guest guest
I can see a lot of improvement with the side view but not so much from the top. However, if his daddy has this head shape then it probably is fine. Plus if the specialist thought it was fine then that's great. If you still aren't sure then I would recommend going to CT for a free eval. They will give you measurements and such if you ask. lisa 10.5 month old son, DOC band graduate > > > Well, we took Eli in to see Dr. Ehret at Bridge > > in Tacoma > > (Washington). Guest guest
Thanks for taking a look at Eli's head pics. Yah, the top of his head does still look bad...but my husband's head looks identical from the top. So, not worrying anymore here. We will just keep repositioning him to try to get it to round out more. Nothing else we can do now since the specialist says he does not need it and he is who we would get a prescription from. We do not have a CT here...we are in Washington State and the closest is in California. So...won't be able to get a free eval. I feel a whole lot better about his head shape now...just going to relax and let things be. Thanks!! Guest guest
There is a STARband clinic in Seattle that can probably give you an evaluation if you want one from a band provider: Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center 4800 Sand Point Way, N.E. Seattle, WA 98105 206-386-6100 Molly California Nicolas, 18 months, tort & plagio, STARband 4/25/06-9/12/06, Graduate! , 4 , 7.5 Re: Update: Eli had his first appt today Thanks for taking a look at Eli's head pics. Guest guest
If you are comfortable with it that's good. If you still have doubts then get it checked but another specialist. My doctor kept saying it would round out and it never has. So, I went to CT myself. But you really need to have a doctor backing you up because you have to have a precription. Guest guest
This was our original referral. They only use the Clarren Helmet...that is why I decided to go to Bridge...they use Hanger. From what I have heard from others...I am pretty sure they would not prescribe him a helmet either. Thanks though!! I am done worrying and ready to help get his head rounder on our own. He does have his 6 month appt on Tuesday and if he pedi still thinks we should check out Children's in Seattle, then we will. - Re: Update: Eli had his first appt todayI can see a lot of improvement with the side view but not so much from the top.
