Laurie, sorry just now reading your message. I have got to either delete all or something but then would not know how you all are doing. Not sure what to do with over 500 emails except cry.

Anyway about the Duragesic Patches, I wish had answer of dose can take via patches but do not. I use to be on Oxicontin also and wow did that med do a mind game for me. I am always in wonder how others can take it and function, isn't that weird how we all can differ so very much with how our bodies react to the same med?

As for the Duragesic I take 225 of patches, change every 72 hours and yes need higher sometimes but sure heart would not appreciate that.

Hope by now you are doing much better Laurie. Need to get all of us at the very same time feeling perfect and meet somewhere and just laugh and talk and play cards and EAT ALOT of junk food, pizza etc. My ideal, oh, and no pain again. Just relax, no meds needed or grumpy friends, or family. Just sounds good today.

Take care Laurie and Barbara, you take care also.

Re: Flare over?

Laurie - Sorry to hear that you've been having such a difficult time of it. I'm not sure what the maximum dose for duragesic/fentanyl. It's weird. I can handle it in my pump and have done fine with it even with all the new oral narcotic meds that have been added. Don't you dare stick a patch on me though !!. While I can even handle it it by injection, I've gotten sick as a puppy when I've tried tha patch.

While there are ways of figuring out how much of one pain med is equal to howm much of another, I've found in the past 6 weeks of the docs needing to play narcotic roulette with me that I react very differently to different narcotics both in terms of pain relief and in terms of side effects. I guess it must be similar to liking someone but not being able to stand their family. I gotta tell ya, it's the only way that it makes sense to my body. Since my body doesn't tolerate morphine, we started with Dilaudid (and you could have probated my will and I was still in horrific pain) to Methadone (had a bad reaction to it but it was okay for pain coverage for me) to now Levorphanol (and I'm doing fine all the way around). All schedule II meds and all equivalent dosages....Now we've just got to tell my body to put up with the doc's efforts to keep increasing the dosage. It really is a matter of different strokes for different folks.

To the grp. It's been one unthinkable week. starting tuesday after myy worker so kindly helped me with a bath that in half hour of being out the pain was so intense in my lower legs. I used the breakthrough but just seem like all the narcotics I had wheren't working. I let it go for 2 days and on Thursday nite my doc finally called me back. I thought he had abandon me. We had an agreeable discussion and now I have increased the duragesic to 100 and the oxicodone right now to 1 1/2 pill every 4 hours if needed. Well it's all working this morning and I got a good nite sleep. So hope this crap is over. I'm sure the hot water in the bath set it off. It was really hot. My doc says I can onlly go up the 300mcg. of fentanyl. Do any of you guys go higher> And when that runs out what other meds can we take. Cus it sounds the way my doc says when I've reached the max he doesn't know what to do with the meds.

Oh well Gotta get through the mail I'm 375 behind so if you all forgive me I will be pushing the button. but hope to get the jest of things. Take care my friends and hope this finds you in good place.

Hi Jan, Momma Jo, Tonia, Barbara, Lyn, Tip toeing Faith,Deb D. Dawn, if I forgot I know when I hit the send i'll reget it but you know who you are. Take care
