Guest guest
Hi Cath, I am so very sorry for you. I know exactly how you feel. I have been keeping an eye on you and have decided that further surgery is just not an option for me at the moment. I have been on Xenical for the past few weeks and they have done absolutely nothing. I am seeing Dixon in a few weeks and, against my better judgement, have decided I will ask for a script for appetite depressants. I have resigned myself to the fact that if I am to shift anymore weight it is going to have to be through another means. The band and plain old dieting just aren't doing it for me. I really thought that with the band it would be the end of my weight problem. Not so. However, like you, I never lose sight of the fact that the band did help me lose and keep off 35 kilos. 35 kilos that would still be there without the little sucker within. At least for that I am extremely thankful. Keep your chin up and I sincerely hope the loss starts soon. Fondest regards, Esther. PS What further surgery are they talking about? Guest guest
Cath, I completely relate to this. I also have around 20-25 kg to lose, and sometimes lose sight of the 45 or so already gone. For the last year I've been yo-yo'ing within a 5-7 kg range above my lowest weight, and I'm beginning to think that perhaps this is the weight I'm meant to be. Truth be told, if I was completely confident that I could maintain where I am I'd live with it reasonably happily, but I constantly fear the upward creep. I guess I must have missed something while I was away. I know you had the switch op......... why is it not working for you? I know of the cakes has been doing brilliantly with it...... or had been when I last saw her....... and thought it was almost foolproof. What's the problem? > I will just have to dwell on the 30 odd kilos lost in the past five > years before getting upset about the next 20. Guest guest
I realise it is probably repetitive for you, but I " second " Diannes question. There has been such a lot of reference to the " switch " operation on this list and I was wondering what it is. Even just a quick explanation would be most helpful, and would put in context some of the e.mails from Cath and . Regards Liz Re: It's Official - I've gained a kilo Cath, I completely relate to this. Guest guest
Thanks for that. Most informative. Liz Re: It's Official - I've gained a kilo The BPD/DS stands for the Biliopancreatic diversion with the duodenal switch. Hence why we all call it a switch. Most of us on this list with switches have had bands before we had the switch. You can go to www.duodenalswitch.com for a diagram if you want more info. Guest guest
Hi , I just hope you can get back on track soon. The frustration is just a total bummer. I had my op half and half lap and open. With lap they have to add in the costs of the disposables which seem to take a chunk of about 4000. Glad to hear you are recovering well. I hate that feeling just after surgery. It is just so draining. have a good weekend. Cath > Hi Cath, > > Sounds like our health system is becoming more like the US one if it costs > an extra $7K+ for an op which probably takes something like an hour or two > longer than the AGB.
