Guest guest
-This is where only the UK folks can understand the discharge...We have a totally different system.. We have the NHS..state funded..we can only go where our PCT's (one of the layers of beurocracy) have awarded a contract for certain procedures/care... No we have no freeedom of 'choice' BUT compared to many people here in Uk I consider myself to get nowadays wonderful treatment. So as Debra rightly says..a consultant faced with a person with mito. has a patient with a chronic awkward illness..govt. treatment targets have to be met....I go to a consultant after a refferal letter has been sent by my GP..in the gastro's case after blood test had shown a problem. I have a fantastic GP and a metabolic Doc who deals with Inborn Errors of Metabolism in both children and Adults..they know the score and say do not give info. that is NOT asked for..unfortunatly the gastro. was doing EVERYTHING correctly to ascertain what was wrong as he would with any patient based on my blood tests and examination..My consultant says the gastro. did NOT ned to know I had mito when he did the endosopy to find what damage my autoimmune parietal antibodies had done and were doing to the lining of my stomach..and treat accordingly...... I think the best summing up of the situation was my nephrologist in the renal unit where I had been going for years...I told him I had mito. last year...he shrugged his shoulders and told me that what is wrong with my kidneys is found in thousands of people and telling him of mito. is a red herring he refused to have treat entered in the file...he treats what he sees as his job..my kidneys....He is a very Senior man in the UK renal world and he says you could argue that every form of renal/urological malfunction will have a knock on effect on the mitochondria which are after all in every cell. They also do transplants and dialysis on patients according to clinical need regardless of other diagnosis... Gillian -- In , " ohgminion " wrote: > > > My Gp and metabolic doc were delighted...
