Guest guest
hi julie... my name is kelly, and i am also thirty something! I live in cape town, south africa. my daughter, ella will be one years old on 7 November - she has unilateral microtia/atresia. welcome to this group - you will never need to look any further than this site for all the information, advice, and loving support that we all need! good luck with sarah's operations! kelly New Member Hello, I wanted to introduce myself....I'm thirty something and live in the eastern US. I have a 4 year old daughter named who has Treacher Syndrome. She has bilateral atresia and microtia, although it is asymmetrical, with her left side more severely affected than her right. She has a bilateral pure conductive hearing loss, and for about one more week, is wearing a standard bone conduction hearing aid. If all continues to go well, she will be getting her BAHA on November 6th. She is only getting one BAHA for now, since Dr Brent felt that getting the BAHA on the left would interfere with future reconstructive work on that ear. As soon as work on that ear is finished, we plan on getting her second BAHA. She had a feeding tube for 3 years, but is now eating completely by mouth. Feeding has been and continues to be our major challenge with her so far. She is a bright, beautiful girl who says the funniest things.....she keeps us laughing every day. I really need to write a book about the " world according to " . I'm so excited to be a part of this group. I am especially interested in learning more about Dr Romo and the polyethylene option for ear construction. I can easily perceive the advantages of this procedure versus a rib graft; I would also like to know what the disadvantages might be. Well, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.......... Thanks, K ('s mom)

The other ear seemed on that path as well but it is open enough for good hearing. He used to wear a bone conductive hearing aid over the top of his head. I thought we would go to in the ear aids after surgery.............but didn't have to because of good results. Yours in Him, Mickey
Guest guest
Hi Starr, Our son Josh had his ear reconstructed within the past year. While we didn't have any delays in getting insurance approval, I really pushed the insurance company to assign a case manager to Josh's case. This helped out a lot as I only had to go through one person if I needed to contact them. In any case, I would call them and ask why it was delayed and this is the perfect example of why a case manager would be beneficial to you and the insurance company! Hope this helps! Guest guest
Kendra, You are doing fantastic! Man you are half way there and it hasn't been 1 year. From time to time we all go thru things like that. Right now I am dealing with the same thing. Except I am eating non stop. I am letting myself have free rein until Monday and then I AM getting my big butt back in gear as I still have about 55 pounds to go to get to my goal. I am tired of paying to do something that I should (but can't) do on my own! Good luck . One of the most important things we all have to remember is we have to learn to forgive ourselves like we forgive others. Roxie
Guest guest
Hi Kendra - I too decided that I can't use the excuse of the New baby any longer...since he's 8 months.....heehee...but it was nice while it lasted. Guest guest
I waited until today because I had my 30 year class reunion this weekend and if I started then I would only get angry with myself when I ate things that weren't OP. So instead of starting in a bad way I waited until today. I am back and ready to get rid of this weight. Yes I think that forgiveness is very important. This is NOT a diet it is a change of lifestyle and there will always be things that get in the way. We all have to learn to move forward and not let them get us so down that we quit! Roxie Why wait til Monday? (Fine if you do, of course, but you can also give yourself permission to start right away, if you want to start Monday with a greater sense of accomplishment and lightness.) I like what you say about forgiveness, by the way! 8-) -Elissa

Guest guest
Hello Everyone! I am on my first day of the SBD. I am on a path to improving my lifestyle, although I'm not quite feeling the benefits yet. I quit smoking a little while ago with serious intention of not going back. My roommates have been a huge help and I don't know why I'd do without them. I'm preparing my food ahead of time so that when a craving hits, I have veggies, etc. ready to go. Can anyone give me a heads up on the types of symptoms I might experience during my time on Phase 1? I've heard lethargy, irritibility and sore muscles are common. I look forward to sharing my success story with everyone.
