Guest guest
Here's two postings from the Autism-Mercury group that you might find interesting. Note the car seat discussion in Posting #2. Posting #1: ---------------- Is it bad to chelate when exposure continues? If so do I need to buy an expensive organic cotton mattress due to antimony? *IMO, yes. Two places I know about make them: Soaring Heart Futon in Seattle (where I got mine) and Abundant Earth, also in WA (Port Angeles, maybe). Both have websites and both require (it's a law) that those made without chemicals or wool (another flame retardant, which sometimes contains arsenic due to sheep dip) go only to those with a prescription. My acupuncturist/NAET practitioner faxed them one and it sufficed. I have no connection with Soaring Heart Futon other than as a satisfied customer and none with Abundant Earth. S Posting #2: ----------------- The beds themselves can be an exposure? > The mattresses, yes, as well as sheets, etc. One can get non-flame retardant futons only with a doctor's prescription. I got mine from Soaring Heart Futonsin Seattle. Some are made with wool as the flame retardant instead of the antimony but arsenic is used on sheep so I'd go with the chemical-free, nonwool ones. I think a place, also somewhere in the Pacific NW, called Abundant Earth, also has/makes them available by prescription. Cotlife website has info about mattress covers but I don't know if they go bigger than crib size. > Are their studies showing exposure from car seats? Don't know about studies but info out there a couple years ago in particular about Graco having both antimony and arsenic (used as stain resistance). Should be able to read some about that in the archives of this list. There also is or used to be a list called antimonyandarsenic with some of the same people as on this list. > >Message: 9 > Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 22:48:48 -0000 > >Subject: mattresses > >Has anyone dealt w/ the new mattress issue? I am looking at what to >do to move my twins out of toddler beds and want to avoid the flame >retardant stuff...
