Guest guest
Dear Grace, We are not trying to frustrate you. We are simply telling you the truth. This is not the rny that obese Americans get. This is a band around the stomach so you don't feel as full. You still have to diet and exercise whether you like it or not. It is not a magic wand. You will feel fuller on less. If you feel it is not for you, look for an alternative. I wish I had. You have the choice, I don't. The American rny removes part of your intestine which leads to fats and sugars not being absorbed. This does not happen with the lapband. Better you find this out before rather than after the event. A positive mind is the best tool for weight loss with or without the band. Good luck with your choice. Marie, Just had to respond, dont you just love it when the skinny people offer you advice ?? Better still how about when they describe people as fat and lazy or fat and ugly or just fat. I try not to rise to the bait but I agree that it is quite stinging. We were once at a smart luncheon party where a women who was one of the eternally skinny stick insect types not only described two people as fat and lazy when telling a story but later made an anti-American slur. I admit I am sensitive to fat slurs and to American slurs. I picked up on the American one and actually said " What exactly do you mean " you could hear a pin drop. I then proceeded to tell her that I thought she was not only unobservant but ignorant and that unitl that afternoon I had never felt the urge to describe someone and skinny with a big nose, or skinny with bad teeth but I could see how much it added to the content of ones anecdotes. Luckily, the chap next to me broke the silence around the table. My husband was in shock and to tell the truth so was I . I was embarassed that I reacted so strongly but I was very happy to see the stunned look on her face. You keep up the good work for you. I am trying very hard as I am sure everyone else is not to link my self worth with my weight or with my current dieting success or failure. Hang in there. Check out our new web site! > http://www.onelist.com Dear , Our thoughts and all of our good wishes are with you. I realize now that those of us who have had surgeries without incident are rather cavalier and casual about the surgery. In fact, I think I likened it to having your wisdom teeth out pain and discomfort wise. Your unfortunate experience has certainly made me realize what a serious step this operation is. I am truly sorry that you have had this trouble. I thank you for sharing your story with us, we need to know these things as does everyone else contemplating the surgery. I know that I can speak for everyone when I say that we are all here for you and will help in any way we can as you recover and try to forget your horriffic experience. A big hug !! Guest guest
, Well, *I* think my story is a greatly successful one, but only because I wasn't expecting too much and have been really patient with the band. I had mine done at the beginning of October last year. I have always been kind of plump (around 65kgs at 5ft2), but after my daughter was born my weight settled in at about 82 to 88kgs, and I was miserable as all of the women in my family are obese and I could see I was heading down the same path. So I found the band on A Current Affair or some such program and immediately looked it up on the net...shopped around for surgeons and four months later found myself on the operating table. I was 88.9kgs on the morning of the op. I am now 74kgs. This is less weight loss than you! However!! I am ecstatic about it. I feel better at this weight than I used to at 65kgs...I guess just knowing where I have come from and what could have been has kept a smile on my face. My ideal weight is, apparently, 55 to 60kgs. However, the goal I set myself before the surgery was 68kgs. I think that is the most realistic weight for my body considering my genetics. I really haven't noticed the weight loss at all! I mean...it hasn't been a struggle for me. I don't really watch what I eat. I have a bit of chocolate every day if I want to. I have not done a single bit of exercise, other than walk the daughter and the dog up to the post office about 3 times a week. It is really the portions that I am forced to eat (being much smaller) that have made the difference. I lost most of the weight during the liquid phase, but since then have lost about 7 kgs, VERY SLOWLY. (I only weigh myself once a month and have resolved not to be obsessed with it) I'm not in too much of a hurry. I haven't even bought too many new clothes. I just love the feeling of my old clothes falling off me. It reminds me of my good fortune every day. Is there any way you can have the operation done again? This was the only answer for me, and believe me, I tried all of them. Don't go back to starvation diets !! I understand why you want to.... Is having the surgery done again totally out? You have been so good-natured about your misfortune vs the rest of our's luck. (I would have been spitting chips and logged off by now!!) I would love to share your success with you. Steph. Guest guest
I think if I considered the OP again (my husband would leave me,,after what we went through,,, " " I say WE " " as it was a lot on him too ! ) and I m to scared,,for me it's NOT like falling of a horse.....No I couldn't consider a nother OP. I kept telling my husband that the band was my last chance at loosing weight ( I felt quite desperate ) I suppose I'm feeling a bit sorry for my self now,,,as I am back at the start and I don't really know what to do ( I suppose I have brain washed my self about how the band was going to help me and it was my last chance at loosing weight ,, and If I had it in I am sure It would have helped me) Gee I am dribbling some crap,,,,I just have to change my attitude to loosing weight ( only been trying to do that for 10 years,,,hopefuly it will sink in soon ) Yours is a good story ,,it sounds like you tackled the weight problem BEFORE it got to out of hand,,,that was a brave decision. wrote: > > > , > > Well, *I* think my story is a greatly successful one, but only because I > wasn't expecting too much and have been really patient with the band. Guest guest
Dear Sue, You speak with such wisdom. Wisdom and maturity occur with age and the older we get, the more we realise how immature we were at an earlier age. But at the time we think we know everything. My eight year old said those dreaded words to me the other day. " Mum, you never listen to me! " and I thought, yes I do. I do listen to her, but do I actually hear her. The older I get, the more I realise that the less I know. My father is obviously more mature than he was when I was a teenager. He is actually listening to what I have to say now - not only that but agreeing with me that he didn't know everything and for that I love him. My mother - I have emotionally distanced from and I realise now that it is not just me but everyone else around her that she is unable to relate to in a emotionally enhancing way. That I have to live with. At 12:09 12/06/1999 -0400, you wrote: >From: Sson@... (Sue son) > >Dear Dorit, > >Honey, you can't change your parents. The only person you can change is >yourself.
