Guest guest
Vera and Barbara: On the other hand, Ken' s BP every single night went up to 220/100 when he went to bed even though we kept his head elevated. In ER once, I saw it go to 237/120 before it came down to 180/100, and they sent him home. He took both Florinef and Midodrine but never took Midodrine after 4PM. When he stood up, his BP always dropped about 50 points, and our goal during the day was to keep it about 178/ 100 sitting so he could take the drop when he stood and not pass out. Once, he stood up too fast and passed out for over 15 minutes. That was when the paramedics came and seeing his BP at 60/30 took him to ER where it measured 237/120! So, you see, BP can be very erratic. We never worried about a stroke because strokes seem to be pretty rare with MSA . We were much more concerned with keeping the BP high enough for Ken to stand. Also, our Neurologist felt that he got more oxygen to his brain if we could keep it high, and that made him mentally clearer. I did notice that when he seemed mentally fuzzy, he always improved if we lay him down for a few minutes. Love to you all, Barbara
