Just thought I would forward my e-mail to NBC and their response (or lack of one). I hope others will share their feelings with them also.

Your message:

I have just watched tonites episode of ER and found that I just had to respond

to the show. I do not typically do this, but this issue really hit close to

home and I felt I could not sit quietly. As the parent of one child with

autism which was possibly vaccine induced and the parent of another child who

has not received the MMR vaccine due to the possibility of it causing autism,

I was very disheartened by your portrayal of this issue. I do not have a

problem with you addressing this issue on the show, however, the way the

parents were treated was disgusting. Even though the mother was portrayed as

an intelligent woman who had not made the decision not to vaccinate her child

lightly, the doctors spoke to her as though she had done something criminal.

They also spoke to each other with a condecending tone when they spoke about

her. Obviously, no one involved with the show has very much knowledge about

the statistics regarding the sharp increase in autism which directly

correlates to the introduction of the MMR vaccine in this country as well as

the UK. Nor are you aware of the connection between mercury poisoning and

autism(Thimerisol is the preservative used in the vaccines and contains unsafe

levels of mercury). Perhaps a little more research on your part would produce

shows with more reality and compassion when dealing with such sensitive

subject material.

I also wonder why the first advertiser on a show dealing with parents not

vaccinating their children is a pharmacutical company telling us to be sure to

" protect " our children by having them vaccinated. Perhaps if the people at

NBC were to talk to some of the families of vaccine injured children, you

would broadcast programs with more compassion, validity and sensitivity and

you might be more selective in the advertisers for your programs.

Sincerely yours,

A Former ER Fan
