Hi ,

I wanted to help explain plagio vs brachy. Plagio is often used

generically and is from latin meaning something like " crooked head " .

With plagio the head is asymmetric, meaning that one diagonal (front

right to back left) will be different than the other (front left to

back right). That is why you here " 10 mm or asymmetry " meaning one

diagonal is 10 mm different than the other.

Brachy is flat in back, but symmetric. Usually what happens is the

head will become wider and/or higher because the head isn't growing in

back (mattress etc redirects growth somewhere else). But the diagonals

will be the same. This is measured by comparing the ration of the

length (front to back) vs the width (side to side). Normal you would

have 80% (width is 80% of length). But with brachy the number will be

higher, in my daughter's case she started out with the width almost as

large as the length. This is often caused by sleeping facing straight

at the ceiling vs one side or the other. Also there is usually no

torticollis with brachy.
