Guest guest
Well, Carol, I've been looking for where I found that requirement. Literally. I know I read it SOMEwhere -- either in the book or on this site -- and I've been carrying the darned book around with me all day, and, now, of course, when I need to go through it with scrutiny, I can't find it. Nuts is what I am today in more ways than one. But, I will look for it and post when I find it. I know that I could not possibly have made it up! It had to be either in the book or else in something I read on this site. However, you are right that all the menu suggestions in P1 in the files section of this site add up to 5.5 cups of veggies, if you include the two 1/2 cup " recommended bean " servings (lunch and dinner or snacks) in the measurements. (1/2 cup at breakfast, plus two cups at lunch and two cups at dinner). But that's not where I got the amount. I remember seeing, somewhere, the 5.5 cup figure. Maybe someone wrote it to me in an email when I first started. But then it got stuck in my head as a requirement of P1. Anyway, I have been learning this just looking for this statistic, so all is not lost. For example, in re-reading the transcript of Dr. A's speech in November, 2004, I see that, although he does not rule out coffee, he does discourage it, saying that it causes increased production of insulin which sparks cravings. So, in spite of the fact that I was successfully on Day 3, so far, I couldn't understand my rather mad cravings for " something, just anything, to have. " (That's the only way to describe it.) And I was wandering around trying to find something to go into the mouth. (After the pecans, I then also had several more small slices of the yeasty bean bread, plus another 3/4 ounch of 75% lean cabot cheese. I feel fairly content now, so maybe I just hadn't eaten enough at dinner. Or, maybe, just MAYBE, it was the fact that I DID overindulge in coffee mid-day. Ole HoneyPie had made a fresh pot, and it smelled very, very good.... and I was hungry after doing my 46 minutes on the stationary bike . . . .and so I ate something, but also guzzled some coffee.... so that must explain the cravings. ALSO, in that same address, he mentions that in Phase 1 we need be MORE concerned with eliminating cravings than with actual weight loss. I had heard so many stories of all these people who have lost SO MUCH weight during Phase 1, but I doubted that I would because I've been trying to get away from my inclination to measure everything.. . . I know that the concept of measuring is SO alien to SBD. I recommend writing things down, though, so I know if I'm really hungry or not . . . but without MY computer (I write it all down on Fitday), I'm not doing that right now, so I have no real " anchor. " And I might be over- eating. It's hard to know. I feel like I'm sort of " flying blind. " Anyhow....as soon as I find my book (Good grief! It's gotta be here SOMEWHERE!!!) I will re-read all my underlinings and cite you chapter and verse (that is, IF it is to be found in there.) If not, then, I stand corrected and will, of course, apologize for whatever misinformation might have unknowingly been passed along. Annie > > I have a quick question!
