Guest guest
My son is 7 months and was born with plagio and torticollis. He started STARband therapy last week. I'm new to group and have noticed many parents coming back to the group because their child needed to be banded a 2nd time. I'm wondering what suggestions people have for preventing relapse. We are doing physical therapy for the torticollis but I don't see much change in him (he's more flexible but still holds his head in the same position most of the time). Are there products you'd really recommend for repositioning (both while banded and after)? Are there things people wish they had done differently? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi , I want to stress the fact that regression is very uncommon. Most children do not regress at all. However, I think that it is important to keep following those "rules" they give us before our kids are banded. For example, still do everything you can to keep them off of their backs. I know that this alone will not stop regression in some cases, but it is bound to help. As far as the Tort goes, I also have a 7 month old working thru. She is also more flexible, but we are not yet at the point where she has full ROM. From what I understand, it can take a very long time to reach that goal, but it's worth it to avoid surgery. As a side note. . . .many parent's have to band a second time merely because their child outgrows their first helmet. Guest guest
I have only seen a few babies who have regressed since being on this board. some need a 2nd band to continue getting correction after outgrowing a first. From what I know regression isn't that predictable. Factors can be very young child & unresolved tort, but in some cases they really don't know why. I think the regret I've read most often is that people waited too long hoping plagio/brachy would improve on its own, or in a few cases going with an inexperience band provider and not gettting good correction (in some cases the head got worse). Most of those people re-band with an experience ortho/clinician. As for repo you don't need it while in the band. Depending how long your child is in the band you may want to minimize time on the head when your baby is out of the band, but assuming he wears it a few months I don't think you'll need to worry too much when you're done. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > My son is 7 months and was born with plagio and torticollis.
