Guest guest
Someone posted in another group (unrelated to Celiac at all) that wheat grass is just fine to those suffering from Celiac’s or gluten intolerance. I remember asking initially about sprouting wheat and I was told it was a bad idea, can anyone clarify this for me? I don’t like being confused; I keep having accidents as it is from sneaky gluten. My body is still really sick and over reacts to everything, lactose, soy, corn *sigh* I can’t wait to get halfway back to normal. Thanks! Guest guest
Generally it is safe for celiacs to consume wheat/barley grass or juice derived from them. The reason is that these young plants have not yet developed the proteins/gluten that we cannot consume. But for some this is similar to the distilled vinegar debate. Since wheat grass is a wheat plant some individuals will automatically disqualify it. I'm funny about food so I understand the " fear " . But the science suggests that the fear is probably misplaced. Sprouting wheat may be a bad idea not because it's wheat but because sprouts of all types are suspectible to bacterial contamination. You have to know what you are doing. > > Someone posted in another group (unrelated to Celiac at all) that wheat > grass is just fine to those suffering from Celiac's or gluten intolerance. > I remember asking initially about sprouting wheat and I was told it was a > bad idea, can anyone clarify this for me?
