Our Success Story

Hello everyone! I have not posted in a very long time. My ds,

Tyson, has been wearing his band since October 11th, 2006 and we

just found out that he has one more month left in it. I have never

understood the numbers all I know is that when he started he was

moderate and now his plagio is definately considered mild. He still

has a prominent forehead on the right and the right side of his head

is flatter than the left, but we have seen HUGE improvements. His

ears were very misaligned and they have improved so much you can't

tell anymore. Also, the back right side of his head has filled in a

great deal. It has rounded out and looks completely normal. He

will have worn the helmet for a total of 3.5 months when he gets it

off. His facial assymetry has also just about completely vanished.

We were really not sure whether or not to band for a few reasons: we

were told he was borderline and didn't really need one, also he was

8.5 months when he got the band and we thought it was too late to

see much improvement in a short time. But we went with it and now

we have absolutely no regrets! His plagio was not severe but it was

quite noticeable. He has tort and we have continued with pt and

stretches so I think that helped the assymetry a lot as well. I

just wanted to share our success story with anyone who might be in

the process of considering a helmet. We chose the DOCband because

we heard good things about it and there is an office 20 minutes away

from us (Oakbrook). The orthotists were well trained and very good

with our son. We still have one more month to go and there's still

room for improvement in his head, but we just take it one day at a

time. I want to thank everyone for helping us in our decision to

band. It was a hard one to make and everyone in here gave unbiased

information that went both ways. Thank you all for your support! I

will continue to be a member in this group and I'll probably ask

many more questions (including whether to get him a second

band.....!), but I just wanted to thank everyone now since the

hardest part is over. Thank you all! There are not words that can

express the extent of our gratitude to all of you.

, I am glad things are going so well for Tyson in his band. It

sounds like you are pretty pleased with his progress so far. I hope

he gets a little rounder in the next month.

Keep in touch and let us know how he is improving.

, I am sooooo happy you guys have seen such great improvement. Doesn't it feel great to know that the helmet is paying off? It is such a hard decision to make, whether or not to band, that it is very gratifying to know you made the right choice for you and your family. Congratulations.
