Guest guest
My son who will be 2 this week wore a DocBand for 4.5 months. He graduated this last March. I wanted to let those of you that are interested know about Osteopathic Therapy. Though DS is within the normal range, I still wanted to try Osteopathy when I heard about it. My son has had 3 treatments (1x/wk) and he seems to have slightly more correction. The therapist said he definitely has some compressed areas in his head and some even caused by the band. He is supposed to have 3 more sessions. I will be going to cranial therapies to have him measured in Feb, and will report back to the group with the results to see if we did get anymore correction. FYI - Cranial Sacral therapist are not doctors but Osteopathic therapist are. We go to Original Osteopathy in Santa . http://www.osteopathic.org/ http://www.originalosteopathy.com/sitemap.html
Guest guest
Is osteopathic therapy the same as manual therapy? My son is in a Starband and he's been in it since Sept 7. He's almost 11 mo and I feel that we're almost there but I would like more corrections and the bones in his head just look unnatural to me. But i'm no dr and would like to be seen for manual therapy for my son but all the therapist around here require a dr's rx. It was pulling teeth to get his pedi to write the rx for the band. So is there any way around the rx? Or any ideas on how I can get the pedi convince to write it? I dont' care if I have to pay out of pocket even just as long as it will help any. My son has extremely thin hair and it's obviously noticeable. Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks for being such a great group. Guest guest
I'm interested in finding out more about osteopathic therapy. I checked out the websites, but not sure I really understand what they do, how you know whether you need to go to one or not, or how you find a therapist. I'm in the midwest (Bloomington, IL), so I'm wondering if we even have that type of medicine offered here...Could you give some more details? Thanks! Guest guest
I'm not sure if osteopathy is the same as manual therapy, but here is a link that was sent to me by my osteopath. It has a lot of info as well as a search function for practicioners near you. http://www.cranialacademy.org/ We originally started seeing our osteopath for his tort, but she said that it would also help his head shape. We were able to 'self refer', but we're paying out of pocket since our HMO doesn't cover it. We've had two sessions and I already see an improvement in my son's motor skills. I'm not sure how much is from the osteopathy and how much is from the PT, but either way I'm going to keep up with both of them! It's hard to tell if it's made much difference in his head shape. His head has been getting better too, but I don't know how much of that is due to the osteopath and how much is due to the band. Good luck! Guest guest
I found my osteopath as a referral from another local mom, however she is listed in the directory. We've been going every two weeks (two sessions so far with another scheduled for Friday) and each session lasted about 45 minutes. She said it's not really necessary to go more often because it takes the body a while to adjust to the changes, however each case (and osteopath) is different.
