Guest guest
Now I don't know about the nail part, but I've heard that your hair grows the same rate whether you trim it or not, it just seems to grow faster when you trim it because it's not breaking off stick by stick if you don't. Unless your hair falls out in the shower, then you get new ones. I should be bald by now and am not sure why I'm not. SpiffJudy P wrote: Hmmm, I'm not sure about that. From what I read it has more to do with the speed that the nails grow. Apparently your fingernails grow faster on your dominant hand and so if you only have a few moons, you're likely to see them there. My daughter and I only have traces on two fingers of our right hand (interesting) and of course the thumbs. My hubby bites his nails and so they probably grow faster and he has all his moons. The moons are new cells and that's why they're whiter, so if they grow fast enough, you'll see the new growth, and if they don't you won't. That's what I took away from all my reading anyway. It could be like hair, in that if you trim them more often, they may grow a little faster, so in that sense regular nail care might do it. I'll do an experiment. I'll go trim mine now, and then I'll try to remember to trim them once a week by putting it on my calendar and then I'll report back in a month. What the heck, I have way too much time on my hands anyway... Judy I am wondering — could lack of moons ALSO be contributed to poor nail care? __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Actually, the deeper the moons, and the more of them there are, all has to do with the oxygenation of the nail bed. Since I have moons on only the thumbs and two of the fingers on each hand (indexes and one other one actually, I think), I've got to wonder how much oxygen is actually reaching down there. Then again, my hands, these days, are always red and warm, as opposed to a few yrs ago, when they were always blue and cold, so I just am puzzled about this. I also no longer wear eye makeup and the like, but only because I'm allergic to ALL of it. The only brand I think I haven't tried is the Clinique brand, and I haven't tried any of the "natural" things found on the internet, as in organic. Re: mooning in Texas ON the topic of moons...I worked pretty hard yesterday on my nails. I wet and softened the cuticle area and then “gently” pushed and pushed until I SAW the LIGHT! Ok, well I saw the MOON!I don’t wear makeup or color my hair or do any “girly stuff” so I am cosmetically retarded but --- I am wondering — could lack of moons ALSO be contributed to poor nail care?I am guessing that if I were to keep this up I may no longer be moonless..Any thoughts on this anyone?Sue
Guest guest
Haha, good to know. So now I don't need to finish the experiment. I would have forgotten anyway. I wonder why my hubby has all his moons. Just for a laugh, I'm not particularly a 'girly girl' and I've had my toes painted twice. Both times, I never bothered doing anything with them afterwards, and it took exactly one full year for them to grow out. It's happened twice, so I definitely know the growth rate of my toenails. That's probably TMI lol... Judy My nails grow like weeds..seriously I need to trim them once a week or file them back as they get long quick..and I have no moons.Kats3boys Get your email and more, right on the new Yahoo.com
Guest guest
If the only way you can see the 'moons' is by pushing up the cuticles... your 'moons' aren't 'normal..... it's like saying as long as you have hair on your head that you it doesn't matter how much you're digging out of the shower drain every day you don't have a problem with hair loss. Guest guest
Cutting hair does not make it grow faster.. cutting hair cuts off the damage ends and causes it to break less so that less is lost and the growth is more noticeable.. Same with nails... shorter nails seem to grow faster cuz the relative increase in length over the end of the finger is greater for a short nail than a long one. Also.. folks with longer nails that use nail polish retard the growth of their nails because of the polish. A hyper person has EVERY thing growing faster, hair and nails included.. yet they lose their moons... I was hyper when I had a nail removed to have stitches put in to repair my finger.. the nail grew back... still moonless... Guest guest
Topper, I can't remember if you told us if you have great moons. I have thumb ones and a couple tiny ones on my right hand... Guest guest
Yes, we did figure that out, oxygenation and circulation, what we can't figure out is why the heck we don't have any!... Topper () I have to wonder then, why they sell “cuticle remover” and those “pushy sticks” and cuticle cream, etc... I had to go shopping this evening and while getting some tooth paste wandered over to the nail section and there’s tons of stuff to push back cuticles-- and I am having “flashbacks” of my mom telling me about this oh, about 40 or so years ago... If I never push back my cuticles, or “do” my nails, wouldn’t that make them “messy” and not as “good” as they could be from proper grooming? Just thinking out loud here... Thanks for your input Sue
