In the susceptible host, only one specimen retained can initiate disabling disseminated Ss. This is why so many beaches ban dogs and why proper disposal of dog do's is important. But, Ss can also be tranmitted through food, water, sex, mother's milk and petting dogs, racoons, etc. who carry the strongyle shared with humans. " Worms " are all over KY.
