Help!

My stomach feels like a constant " pit " I eat a decent breakfast. 2 egg whites

with fresh spinach, and a heaping 1/2 c. of Kashi Go Lean/Fiber One Mix of

cereal with skim milk along with my vitamins and some Crystal Light Grapefruit

stuff. Within 1 hour my stomach is hurting. I have a burning sensation

approximately at the mid-thoracic/sternum area. It started out coming/going but

at this point, it is pretty much constant the entire day. DH, who is a DC, is

thinking hiatel hernia. I'm 43, I exercise twice a week, I am not overweight

thanks to SB (although I certainly don't eat perfect everyday) and I pretty

much stick with a South Beach Diet way of eating. Any other ideas?

I really don't want to start a lot of tests. Last time I did that 12 tests were

performed to rule out everything but gall bladder disease when I kept telling

them that I felt I had gall bladder disease based upon the presented symptoms.

And yes, that was it and I had to undergo surgery.

TIA

Jackie Siciliano

It sounds like acid reflux to me. Try an acid blocker like Zantac. It

won't hurt, and if the burning goes away, you know what it is.

If it's GERD and you don't get treated, it can turn into esophageal

cancer, so I'd get it looked at.

I am very interested to hear what (if anything) you find out.

I too suffer from something similar. Cannot find any relationship to the

type of food I've eaten. My only difference is that it happens consistently

while I am ovulating for about 3 days and then it's gone. If I eat I have

heartburn and when my stomach is empty I have pain, directly below my

sternum. I have had endoscopes and sonograms and still no one has any

answers for me, all they can say is " The lining of your stomach is

irritated. " Really? Duh!

My only relief is Nexium. Not sure why it works..it is supposed to treat

conditions that Dr.'s have already ruled out. If you go to their website

you can get a certificate to take to a Dr. for a free trial of Nexium. It

is worth a try. Good luck and keep us posted.

My endoscope showed that my stomach lining was irritated, and my GI

doc said that without treatment, an irritated stomach lining turns

into an ulcer, so it's considered pre-ulcer.
