Guest guest
Hello, I know this is off topic, however, I need to know what other parents think of flu shots. My son's pediatrician is old fashioned, yet he still told me that my son needed the flu shot. I stupidly complied, not realizing the debates about its efficacy as well as its safety. I should have done research on it first. Now I'm freaking out because there is supposedly an ingredient that contains mercury in it called thimerosal. My son is 9 months old and I was told he was high risk for the flu and now I feel terrible after reading some articles on it. Have any of you had your kids get the flu shots? and have any of you NOT for a specific reason? I'm really scared that I just put my son at risk for a host of problems. I am also mad at the doctor who handed me a sheet about the shot AFTER my son got it. Any advice would help! Thanks in advance! , mom to Tyson DOCband Chicago,IL
Guest guest
A friend of mine lost her toddler to the flu three years ago. That is reason enough for me to immunize all of my kids. Guest guest
Hi, we also just got a flu shot for sydney and I didn't think about it ahead of time either. our paper said " may contain thermosal " (sp?) so I don't even know if it did. I had heard of that, but thought they stopped using it -obviously I was wrong. I think the chance of problems is very very low and the problems associated with thermosal are speculation more than fact. We're traveling to india so I would have gotten the shot any way. I don't know if the flu is a problem in india, but it is a risk when you are packed in a plane with so many people on the way there. Depending on where your son goes (daycare, play group, church) & how bud the flu season is this year, he could be at risk for the flu. The very young and very old are the most vulnerable, so they recommend injections for both. take care. -christine mom to sydney/ 10 mo /starband grad 10-06 > > Hello, I know this is off topic, however, I need to know what other > parents think of flu shots. Guest guest
Hi ! Unfortunately I don't know what ingredients are used to make these flu immunisations. But I have heard about too much mercury in our bodies could cause some memory lost over time. It was recommend not to consume too much of a certain fish because of its mercury level. Because I am from Australia I have heard it was recommend for senior aged citizens to have their flu immunisations once a year before autumn begins. Both my kids are now school age and never had any flu innunisations because I felt it wasn't a compulsary thing to do. They had common colds but they seem to recover quite quickly. They say no medication will cure any flus quickly. But I heard new flu symptons are out all the time but an immunisation will only ease the worst symptons of the flu. Best medication for common colds and flus is complete bed rest and take loads of best quality vitamins. From past experience of having a mild flu, I find swimming in a heated pool will help clear the muscus from my chest quite quick. And staying in a steam room for an hour will help clear blocked noses too. In most cases natural remedies are the best source to cure alot of health issues. Speaking of immunisations do you Americans have baby immunisations for Diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough and chicken pox? Do you get these immunisations for free or do you have to pay for them? From: stockmomma227 Hello, I know this is off topic, however, I need to know what other parents think of flu shots. Guest guest
Yes, we do have those immunizations. It depends on your insurance, but typically they are covered and you just pay the standard office visit. I think the chicken pox vacc. is optional around 15 mos. I can't remember for sure though, b/c it's been a while since my oldest had them!! Candace, AZ fwaaga <fwaaga@...> wrote: Hi ! Guest guest
My oldest, Ethan, has had the flu shot every year for the last three years, and baby Tiernan will be getting his on Tuesday. It's important to me to give them the shots b/c they are in the high risk catergory and Ethan is getting ready to start preschool. I don't need him getting the flu and then bringing it home to Tiernan. Ethan has never had any bad reactions to the shot. Hope that helps relieve some of your fears.
