160 Children Get Sick At W.Va. Camp

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Scores of children at a summer camp became

violently ill with vomiting and diarrhea, and investigators are trying to

determine what happened.

About 100 children got severely sick at the Emma Kaufmann Camp in

stown on July 5, and on Wednesday another 60 had fallen ill,

Monongalia County Health Department Administrator Ed said.

Most are recovering and officials asked parents to leave their children at

the camp to help contain the outbreak and identify its source. Investigators

from the Centers for Disease Control are helping officials determine the

cause.

The outbreak has been confined to the camp with the exception of a few

children who went home and passed the illness to their families, leading

health officials to believe the outbreak is a virus nor passed on through

food, said.
