Guest guest
My son had left plagio, so I can't speak specifically about treating brachy, however my nephew was in a DOC band for Brachy and had great results. All in all I think it comes down to what facility you feel the most comfortable with. If there is a Cranial Tech in your area, take your son in for a free evaluation. Best of luck, keep us posted. Lorie Mom to Spencer & Alizabeth 10 months Spencer- DOC Band Grad- 9/07-12/07 AZ Which is better for Brachy...DOCband or STARband? I know I have asked which is better in general, but does anyone know which is better for having the flat brachy in back? has that, and on the side and facial asymmetry. Dr Vicari at Childrens in Glenview told us that the STARband comes down further in back and that helps the bracy more. Also that the STARband can be used longer since there is more foam. He also said that their clinic is very experienced with the STARband and headshapes, we brought him there for their "Headshape Eval Program". I was impressed with them for that. He told us is mild to moderate at worst, and that he sees no need to jump into a helmet, but if we wanted to he would recommend. So now, in addition to not being sure whether to band, now I am wondering Cranial Tech or the STARband, since he said its good for the bracy and that CT's DOCband doesnt come down far enough in back!Any advice? I wanted to decide by this week, but now I have to figure out CT or Starband! Thanks,
Guest guest
DOCband has three different band types - one for plagiocephaly, one for brachycephaly, and one for scaphocephaly. For example, the one for scaphocephaly (long and narrow) does not use velcro, but a different way of attaching, is more "helmet" like, with less head showing, and actually helps to mold the long head shape upwards into a slope. StartBand is also good at several headshapes, too, and many people have had success with them as well -- so it really depends on what you are comfortable with. If the orthotist is experienced, then they both should work well. You might want to get an evaluation at both places unless time/cost/travel help to shape your decision too. >------- Original Message ------->From : [mailto:Mitchandjim@...]>Sent : 2/15/2008 8:37:51 PM>To : Plagiocephaly >C c : >Subject : RE: Which is better for Brachy...DOCband or STARband?>>I know I have asked which is better in general, but does anyone know which is better for having the flat brachy in back? has that, and on the side and facial asymmetry.
