Guest guest
Hi there, Even though I don't live in the sticks, I've been in your boat - and I bet a lot of people can relate to what you're saying. The hardest part is making yourself just " do it " - especially if you're feeling lonesome or down or, worse yet, depressed. Once you get yourself moving - even if it's by force! - you'll learn what I never believed was possible until I found out for myself: you don't have to enjoy what you're doing to get the benefit from it! And the more you do it (whatever " it " is: in this case, exercising) the more you'll get into it; you'll want to challenge yourself and you'll be proud of the results of your hard work! Good luck, and be sure to praise yourself for even the teeniest of baby steps! Celia in a talkative mood, 2 year old isn't I've read some great ideas, but what if you live in the sticks? No gym. No weight room. No money to buy a little weight lifting center or bike or treadmill.
Guest guest
Well, if you live in the sticks, your neighbors do too, right? Perhaps there is a mom who would like to swap babysitting duties with you. You watch her child for a few hours one day, then she watches yours-so both of you could get some " me " time. If there are several moms in the " same boat " , you could team up with them, and maybe they will have ideas that will fit your environment and your lifestyle. I think it's a great idea to talk to the WIC staff. I bet there are programs you're not even aware of. Even though I live in a small city, I have similar obstacles-I don't drive, it's hot as hell (Alabama), and a gym membership is not an option right now. I don't have an " in house " gym-just a stationery bike, some exercise videos and some very cheap handweights I got at Walmart. (They were about $2-$3 each.) You've already said you've come a long way since December. Keep at it-you know you can do this-obstacles and all! Can you dance around the house with your child? Kids love music and dancing. (It also tires them out for a nap! hee!) It doesn't have to be actual " exercise " all the time-just being active-plus you'll start your child off on the right foot. Do you have steps in your house? Can you play outside with him/her for short periods in the early morning (when it's not too hot) or the evening? When you do your chores, you can put an extra 'bounce' in your step, take longer strides, not carry too much at once (so you have to make more trips), etc. Take heart, the summer will soon be over and you will be able to walk again outside in the glorious-dare I say-Autumn. haha Autumn On Thu, 21 Aug 2003 08:31:48 -0700 " cmentzer " writes: I've read some great ideas, but what if you live in the sticks? I would have to drive 5 miles just to get to a place I could walk and there's so much construction going on and it's so hot, I hate to go. I don't want to drag my feisty 2 year old with me! No daycare options, no babysitters, so that isn't an option. It sounds like I'm making excuses, but there aren't many options here. I do what I can and thought that what I was doing was sort of working. Compared to where I was in December, I've lost weight and feel better. I'm taking all these steps to change my life, not just get that quick diet fix. I worry that I'm not losing a pound a week. I get down on myself for not exercising enough or for having too many bad snacks. I know it's part of the process, to get back up and wipe the crumbs off your shirt and drink more water and try again! I've started going to church. I plan on joining the parents and teachers group at school to get out and about and away from sitting in the house eating. I was thinking of talking to the nutritionist at WIC about diet and exercise to see of there is a group of moms close I could exercise with. Did anyone see the strollercise segment on the Today show on Monday? They all looked so healthy! I have so many reasons to not exercise:too hot, other chores to do, no where to go, get bored being here all day, and the list goes on. I think if I lived in a bigger town (the closest is 45 minutes away, biggest is 2 hours from here) things would be easier. I don't want to move though and couldn't afford it if I tried. Would I do better though with all those fast food restaurants? No. They are rebuilding our Subway in town, ours was destroyed by a tornado. SO, we are down to the greasy mom and pop restaurants and a franchise pizza place, oh and Sonic. One grocery store in town. That kind of place. The kind of place you'd go on vacation to, to get away from where you live but wouldn't want to live here. The sticks. Well, I've bored everyone enough. Good luck today to everyone! We can do it! Guest guest
maybe if the church has a basement or welcome area, you could start an exercise group there. a bunch of you could get together and take turns bringing in exercise videos to do ogether or all of you could chip in to hire a trainer that will do step aerobics, and jazzercize etc. i think that would not be too bad to do. and then you'd all be able to get together more often because of this class and there could be a few teenagers that would volunteer to watch the little ones or maybe even charge a small fee to them or whatever. it could be very reasonable. > I've read some great ideas, but what if you live in the sticks? Guest guest
That sounds like a great idea to me.........! Guest guest
Hey there - I'm hanging in there - still fat, but hanging in there. I guess I should be happy that I haven't gained any more - just stayed around the same weight for over a year now. We just got back from swimming lessons - my chest must have swelled a couple of sizes - the boys are being promoted 2 steps instead of one OK - so they are only 3 years old and the steps are little baby steps at that, but it still made me very proud They could care less - as long as they are in the pool, they don't care which class they'll be in. Guest guest
that's okay i had lost weight and gained it back because of being really really lazy and now i am back on track more than i have ever been before and i am going to stay on track. i've decided to join weight watchers and am waiting for my materials in the mail so i can start going to the meetings next week. eventually when i find more about the lifetime member program i will do that too to keep me going, because i think that being responsible for my progress will really help me. good job for the swimmers. > Hey there - I'm hanging in there - still fat, but hanging in there. > I guess I should be happy that I haven't gained any more - just stayed > around the same weight for over a year now. > > We just got back from swimming lessons - my chest must have swelled a couple > of sizes - the boys are being promoted 2 steps instead of one OK - so > they are only 3 years old and the steps are little baby steps at that, but > it still made me very proud They could care less - as long as they are > in the pool, they don't care which class they'll be in. > > > Sherlyn > http://community.webshots.com/user/spudberry > Re: in a talkative mood, 2 year old isn't > > > hey yeah that's great and you could get the kids to do it to to help > them stay active and know that it should be a regular part of their > life. i haven't seen a post from you in a long time sherlyn how are > you doing? > > > > >
