Guest guest
My son has been in his starband for 4 weeks and does the same. My orthotist said to use hydrocortisone cream. He said to stay away from lotions because they soften the skin and can cause the skin to breakdown under the helmet and that would cause problems. Also I don't shampoo his head everyday, even though it is smelly. In between I wipe his head down with just water because I think the shampoo is what is drying his scalp. > > Hello: > > My son has been wearing his StarBand helmet for about 5 weeks. Guest guest
My daughter used to scratch like crazy when her band came off, but we just tried to rub her head with a towel when the band came off, and then keep her occupied with toys etc, so she wouldn't scratch her head. It worked pretty well, and once the band was back on she was fine. I think it was somewhat itchy, but also just felt " weird " after wearing her band for 23 hours, so her urge was to scratch. We used gentle shampoo. We sometimes used the Aveno oatmeal bath (for babies) made into a paste and put it on her head at bath time - then let it sit while we washed her body. That seemed to help some too. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > Hello: > > My son has been wearing his StarBand helmet for about 5 weeks. We are > truely happy with his progress. Guest guest
hi there! our daughter does the same thing and i think it may be due to several factors ie; changing and growing shape of head specifically on one side and being covered by the helmet for so many hours. we used mustela baby shampoo and mustela cradle cap foam shampoo to wash her hair this seemed to help a lot. we also made sure that her hair completely dry before we put back on her helmet. we also gave her 5 or ten minutes off throughout the day every 4 or 6 hours except while sleeping. hope this helps. cristal and nate naomi 3 months in helmet > > Hello: > > My son has been wearing his StarBand helmet for about 5 weeks. Guest guest
My son goes scratch crazy when his starband is off & I to have gone to the dr 2X to have his ears checked because he was pulling & I thought maybe an infection but he is just fine. I did find cutting all the hair that was touching the top of his ears off a bit has helped alot I just use a little battery operated facial hair trimmer it worked so well to just take off a bit without the worry of cutting him or anything infact I think it was way better than when I took him for an actual first haircut a couple of months ago. > > Hello: > > My son has been wearing his StarBand helmet for about 5 weeks. Guest guest
I was going to post about this very subject. My son is 10 mos and started rubbing really hard Friday night. He had white, dry looking spots on both sides and in the back. The orthotist told us to take off the helmet until he went in this morning. Saturday I couldn't bear to see him rubbing, so I called his ped. They told me to use hydrocort. Although it looks better, he still rubs periodically (mostly when he's sleepy). I think it has a lot to do with frequent washing and not enough old/moisture in the skin (we're AA and don't typically wash our hair often). Since my hubby forgot the details he was supposed to give the ortho, I'm waiting for them to call back. I'm expecting to reduce how much his hair is washed. If anyone has had success reducing the itching, by all means share. > > Hello: > > My son has been wearing his StarBand helmet for about 5 weeks. We are > truely happy with his progress. Guest guest
I would try aveno baby oatmeal bath made into a paste and put on the head for a while. Also after the first month or so we didn't use shampoo every night. Sometimes just washed with water because my daughter was getting too dry. She did scratch at her head, but didn't have the white spots you describe. Also I sat her in the bumbo chair sometimes to wash her head (without shampoo) because her body got dry from bathing daily. Now that she's 2 and play in the sand I bathe her daily, but I never did when she was an infant. I would also ask the ortho if there is any lotion/cream you can use under the band. Maybe aquaphore since that is really gentle - but check. -christine sydney 2 yrs star band grad > > > > Hello: > > > > My son has been wearing his StarBand helmet for about 5 weeks. Guest guest
I actually use Tea Tree shampoo, sparingly, once a week on my sons head. my orthotist said you can put real tea tree oil right on the helmet as a preventative measure. I plan on trying it out. so after you clean the helmet, let it fully dry, and then put a little oil on it. Re: Itching after helmet removal? How did you use it? Daily? After washing hair? Just to the areas needed? All over? Did you wash the hair less?> >> > Hello:> > > > My son has been wearing his StarBand helmet for about 5 weeks. We > are> > truely happy with his progress. Guest guest
The white shows up more because his skin is medium brown. Think I'll ask my derma if she has exp with this. Maybe I can get some samples, too. > > > > > > Hello: > > > > > > My son has been wearing his StarBand helmet for about 5 weeks. We > > are > > > truely happy with his progress.
