Sofia,

Hi I live about 3 hours south of Chicago I bought a hat meant for an

older chid, but to be honest he dosnt use it unless he is going to be

outside for awhile I alo use earmuffs. I cant help with the older

child questions, my son is only 5 months so a blanket is mainly his

winter wear to and from the car. I have found if I put a coat on him

he will get to hot in the car so everything comes back off, hat

gloves coat when we get in.

HI Sophia- the only thing I can offer suggestions on is the clothing issue. While my son Damian is only 6 months old we did adjust his clothing style a bit. First off- you can take the helmet off to get him dressed in the AM and then put it back on. If he balks at having it on in the first place and you want to avoid this- you can try zip and button tops, overalls and other things that don't require over the head dress. I have been putting damian in one piece outfits like comfy pjs or zip up fleece sweatshirts. He seems to prefer this any how now that he's scooting along on his tummy. I hope this helps. Also in terms of the hat- I would just use a hood. I live in MA and it's pretty cold here- but I find that his starband acts like a hat and with the hood he seems to be ok. Hope this helps!LISA, Mom to Damian 6 months old on Xmas eve, somerville, madawndvl <dawndvl@...> wrote: Sofia,Hi I live about 3 hours south of Chicago I bought a hat meant for an older chid, but to be honest he dosnt use it unless he is going to be outside for awhile I alo use earmuffs. Hi,

Good for you for doing what you can. I would definitely band late

rather than skip it. We were lucky that our doctor took our concern

seriously at 4 mo even though she didn't think it was a problem

Good luck with his band. My daughter has a big head, and we stretched

most things over the band, but it isn't that bad if you have take the

band off once in a while to change.

i live in new york and it gets cold here too. i just used my daughter's band as a hat since it covered most of her head. so i did not even bother putting another hat on her head when she went out. i usually would just pull her hood up over her helmet. candice, nychristineashok <christineashok@...> wrote: Hi,Good for you for doing what you can. Hi Sofia,

We are in the Chicago area too and we banded at 18.5 months as well.

My son's been wearing his band for one month LIKE A CHAMP. I was so

surprised because he pulls every baseball cap off his head but he

actually wants to wear his " hat " (DOC band). When we take it off, he

wants it back on. He does have the occasion to try and pull it off

when his head gets itchy, but that's it. Also, we've seen great

results after a month.

As for the winter hat thing, he usually just wears the hood of his

coat, but a couple times when we've taken him out in the super cold,

he's worn a size 2T/3T stocking cap from Old Navy and it fits over

his band. As for regular clothes, we just take his band off real

fast to get his shirt on, then put the band on.

We definitely had the same fears as you, but I have been so so so

relieved!

Thank you all, we're going for casting on Friday. Some of my fears

have been a bit relieved by you all, so hopefully it won't be as scary

as I thought :)

I havent tried with winter hats as SC isnt that cold and got his off right at the start of the cold, the few times it was chilly he just wore his hood which in most coats fit fine over but for the summer a baseball cap or summer hat fit over if we bought it a few sizes too big, kids size fit good, didnt try toddler but adult was a tad big

  • 3 weeks later...

My son has only been in the DocBand for 2 weeks and is only 7 months

old. We are located in the chicagoland area as well, for the cold

you could just buy a bigger coat with a hood to keep him warm. With

the band on his head he will stay warm don't worry about that. But

in regards to buying bigger clothes, each day you can take the band

off to put his clothes on so no need to purchase items bigger than

his normal size. It is very easy to take on and off and my son

doesn't even mind it now. I am not surw how his personaleity will

change but my son has adapted great, he is still the smiley happy

baby I know. Good Luck!
