Guest guest
I only lost a couple of pounds on Phase I. But, I didn't exercise at all then, either. I know, from years of experience, that I will not lose weight by just exercising or just eating well. It has to be a combination. Right now I'm stressed. I'm going to try to maintain until I can get out of my current situation. Then, I'm back on Phase 1, with exercise. Try increasing your exercise as you move into Phase II, and make sure you only add a little to your diet. If you rush into Phase II, you'll be disappointed again. ie
Guest guest
Hi , I'm glad you mentioned that you fasted for five days. I would definitely think that is why you didn't lose on phase 1, because you lost all your water weight fasting, and then your body went into starvation mode and had to readjust to having foods. It's really bad to put your body into starvation mode when trying to lose weight because your metabolism slows down and you stop losing weight when you do that. It's also really bad for your blood sugar levels, and that is what we try to get under control with SBD. Also, since you only need to lose 25 lbs, you weight loss will probably be slower than people who have a lot to lose. And time of the month issues can also hold weight on. I would just stick to the plan and see how you do this next couple weeks. ann > > Hi Everyone, > I've been on this list for a few weeks and have enjoyed reading all > your emails about the SBD. Guest guest
Hey , welcome to the group. From your description, I'd say it's no surprise you didn't really lose anything during P1. I wouldn't sweat it. There are many things that affect weight loss in general. Your 5 day fast probably zapped most of your P1 loss right there. Also, if you're nearing your monthly cycle that will do it as well. Just transition into P2 as normal (slowly) and give it time; I think you'll be fine. Remember that during P2 the pounds come off slowly and the closer you are to the " ideal " for your height, the slower it gets. Good luck! Guest guest
I asked questions about SBD and making the desserts stating I'm single and live alone and I don't do much cooking. I was wondering if I could do the SBD prepackaged meals. I was desperate for help. I got one answer...at least that's all I saw. This group seems to have taken on a life of it's own and newcomers aren't welcome. At least I wasn't. I'm OUTTA HERE! Noctaire noctaire@...> wrote: Hey , welcome to the group. Guest guest
Wow....you are not one to give people a chance are ya? In case you are still here...here are my suggestions/ideas Personally I would not touch the pre packaged foods. Weather it is lean cuisine, WW or SB...they are really not good for you. Full of additives and salt. If you really want to do this, you will need to do some cooking. It does not have to fancy. Pick what you like from the files/ foods to eat, and give those things a chance. When you cook cook extra so you can freeze and have leftovers. Guest guest
Thanks for the replies. I can appreciate what you have said about the fasting. It makes perfect sense. I also agree with the person who talked about adding exercise. When I was younger I taught aerobics and was at the gym all the time. So I completely understand the exercise part of keeping fit and staying healthy. I really love being on SBD. Like I said, I feel great and that makes me want to stick with it. Thanks for all your help : ) ~ > Hi , > > I'm glad you mentioned that you fasted for five days. Guest guest
Mari, I don't do that. I need to limit myself to around 1200 calories each day or I won't lose. So, I limit myself. You adjust to eating less and become full on less. ann > > I haven't lost any weight either, and I've been on SBD since January > 9. Guest guest
That's good advice, ann. I think you're probably right. But I then we have to agree: We're no longer following " SBD " Getting it Right " if we're counting calories, measuring food, etc. Mari > > > > I haven't lost any weight either, and I've been on SBD since January > > 9. Guest guest
I just actually started the Sonoma diet. It's about just like SBD but it's more about weightloss. SBD says it isn't for weightloss, it's for health, but weightloss is a " side affect " of eating healthy. Sonoma is pretty much eating the same types of foods (except phase one allows whole grains), but it is specifically for weightloss. It teaches more about the right portions of the right foods. Not by measuring but more about how your plate looks, certain percentages of each food group on your plate. I'm hoping it helps my plateau that I have been on for a long time. I think that the Sonoma book and the SBD book work pretty well together, and I love learning about what foods help for health. Carol Mari wrote: > That's good advice, ann. Guest guest
Mari- I too have started to count calories because if I eat until I feel satisfied, I just keep eating! I have been on and off SB since March. Mostly on the program with a few slip ups, ice cream binges, eating chips and cakes, etc. But for the most part I stuck with the SB program but on Feb 1, I restarted phase 1 (third time) but this time using fitday and trying to keep my calories in the 1200-1500 range. Has it been easy? Heck no, but I am doing it. I plan to weigh myself on March 1 and see how I did. I also joined a gym and I hate gyms but I know I have to do something to jump start this old motor of mine. Mari wrote: > That's good advice, ann. I think you're probably right. Guest guest
I understand what people mean that if counting calories or measuring, then we are not really doing SBD. However, I have to believe there is some room in there for each individual body. I think people need to be tuned into their bodies. I also am mindful that if I 'eat until I am no longer hungry', I tend to over eat. It's like the book has given me permission and there is all this yummy food there, so let's eat!!!!! Maybe it is a fine line for some people? I'm not counting calories yet, but I do think I am consuming more protein than I need. I was thinking when I read this about something a lady said to me at Weight Watchers once. I had been on the program before, lost weight, then, of course, gained some back. The second time I went to Weight Watchers, I noticed that carrots had previously been 1 point for a cup and now was zero. So I went in there to get weighed and in a very serious manner, I asked the lady about the carrots. She must have thought I was the biggest dope. In a completely dry and serious reply she said, 'believe me, you're not here because you're eating too many carrots!' I immediately started to laugh because she was right. It was the way she said it that told me I needed to relax. Anyway, it was funny. ~ > Mari- > I too have started to count calories because if I eat until I feel satisfied, I just keep eating! Guest guest
No, I don't agree, because the South Beach Diet nutritionist would say exactly what I'm saying. Everyone has a different metabolism, and some people can't eat as many calories for various reasons. It could be because they are on meds, because they can't exercise, because they have other health related conditions, etc. South Beach Diet is about using your head. We are to follow the program, but if it isn't working, we look to see why it isn't working, and then we make the necessary adjustments. Those adjustments may include that we need less grains, we need less fruits, we need less calories, we need less cheese, we need less nuts, etc. That means you are doing the South Beach Diet and using your head by tailoring the program to fit your individual metabolism when there is a problem that prevents weight loss. ann > > That's good advice, ann.
