Guest guest
Hi! Just wanted to add my welcome to the board - it sounds as if we were diagnosed at about the same age (I was 12, now 39), but I did not treat it seriously (nor did my doctors) for 15 years. I was probably in the middle range of progression - I had a tx in 2003 (so 24 years after initial diagnosis). There are many people who lead a full life without too many issues if the IgAN does progress slowly, but I would guess that if we all live long enough, we'll start to have some issues from it. It's really a matter of your choice - you can choose to manage it from the start to minimize the potential future risks, or you can wait it out until it catches up to you in a bad way. It sounds as if you're starting on the right path, although I am not sure that the salmon oil is the same as the fish oil many of us take. md101784 wrote: Hi everyone, it's nice to know everyone here is in the same boat as me. I've been diagnosed with IgAn for 7 years now (I first found out when I was 13). Things have been pretty good, doctor said I am in the group where IgA progresses slowly (not sure what the medical term for it is). I am hoping things will remain stable and my family doctor put me on salmon oil saying it'll be good for me. I was just wondering if your supposidly on the " stable " side of things, will your kidney fail one of these days? How long will that take?
