My son was getting some eczema as well, although not as serious. Our pediatrician suggested just using some vaseline. He said he will heal it and also acts as a barrier between the skin and the helmet. The one area on his forehead where he was getting a lot of eczema seemed to heal overnight with the vaseline.Hope this helps!alewis_tx <alewis_tx@...> wrote: Sophia (7 1/2 months old) received her StarBand helmet the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We have been slowly getting her used to wearing the helmet. She has been a

trooper as always. We are now up to her wearing the helmet 23 hours a day until she graduates. Sophia has had her helmet on now full time for a few days. Over the weekend she was having some discharge from her eye. One morning when I got her out of her crib her left eye was glued shut. I thought it was probably just allergies because she wasn't running a fever. So we continued on with our twice a day bath and the cleaning of the helmet. She was sweating profusely the first few days in her helmet. It was getting so bad little sweat drops were running down her face. The doctor told my husband and I her body would eventually get used to it and it wouldn't be as uncomfortable to her (i.e. she would stop sweating). Yesterday we had physical therapy for Sophia for her torticollis. We decided to take the helmet off for her session because we thought she needed a little break. When we took it off I noticed alot of

dried discharge on her side of her face, ear, neck and hair. I cleaned her up and we went to the physical therapy session. So about half way through the session I noticed her cheeks were oozing!!! Well it looked like the poor little girl had a major eczema outbreak which turned into blisters and then popped. So the oozing around her face was from her raw skin. So it seems like her skin probably got hot and sweaty and then her eczema broke out. Once it was irritated the helmet made it worse and it then broke out in blisters!! We called the orthotic doctor and they told us we had to keep the helmet off until it healed. So now I have to keep the helmet off of her for at least 2 days. So no helmet, for now just as she was getting used to it. And to top it off, what is to say this won't happen to her again when we put it back on her? I am at a total loss. Anyone with this same experience? I don't know what

to put on her skin to keep it from getting this way again. Anyone out there with some tips - anything I am really worried when we put the helmet back on she will go through the same thing again.

I'm sorry to hear your little one's uncomfortable!

That's no fun :(

My son had eczema while he was banded also. It's just

my .02 but I would encourage you to maybe google

causes of infant eczema. A lot of the time eczema can

be a sign of a food allergy or yeast build up in their

little bodies. Just my opinion. Hope you find what

works for your little one!

Hi Natasha:

My twin sons have been wearing the DocBand for three weeks now and today I

noticed the red itchy rash on the forehead of one of them. He was very

uncomfortable before bath time, and I can see why.

Tomorrow they have their appointment at CranialTech and I'll ask what to do;

maybe is because the band needs some trimming because this has not happened

before; not even at the beginning.

I am tempted to use some 1% Hydrocortizone, but I am not sure.

If anyone has any advise, please reply.

Thanks,

(mother of Pablo(left Plagio) and Andres(right Plagio and Tort) - 6 months old

twins)

My dd wore a starband for brachy (flat inback) and when she was due

for an adjustment her band would be tight in the forehead and it

would look sort of like a sunburn. I always took her the next day

and they removed some foam. Your child's problem could be this.

She also got heat rash a few time in the sideburn area.this looked

more like a red rash (small spots) and I used hydrocortizone for

this (rub in and let dry before replacing band). If it is heat rash

it should clear up once you put the cream on it.

How long should the sunburn look stay? After about 1 week I noticed

about half of her head with the redness and when I took the band off

for an hour it was still there. She didn't have any raw spots just

that sunburn thing.

Also, she has bad eczema on her legs, arms etc.. and used to have it

on her face. When we got the band it really seemed to just inflame her

problem again.

After 2 days being out of the helmet her cheeks are almost all healed

but I am still a little worried about what will happen when we put it

back on.. :-)

We also had the sunburn thing at the very beginning when we went to full days/nights. Charlie's didn't go away for quite a while (truly, over a day) and then I didn't put the helmet back on until we got an adjustment.

He's been in the helmet since Oct. 9 and at his first appt, we saw 7mm difference after 3 weeks (from 15-8). The last few weeks he's had it off definitely more than the first 3 weeks, though. We've been battling with teething (all 4 top in one weekend) and an ongoing sinus infection.

I had it on yesterday for the day and he had the horrible "sunburn" on his sideburn again. I know that he's grown quite a bit this last month (my back will attest to that!). We've got an appointment tomorrow afternoon so I'm curious to see where he measures this go-round. Our whole extended family has commented that they can't believe it's improved that quickly.

The best over the counter item that I have used with my 7 month old is

Aquaphor. You can find it in the adult lotion section. It is really

good for dry irritated skin. And let me tell you, we have tried many

things. :-)

> My son dripped sweat during the first few weeks. We could see if

dripping off of his ears! I have not experienced an oozing outbreak

but my son (helmet for about 5 weeks now) has developed an itchy dry

rash under the helmet especially on the forehead and the sideburn

area. We are currently using Aquaphore to help it out. I would speak

with your ped if possible. I would say if the outbreak if from the

sweating then she should not have such a problem with it when her body

adjusts and stops sweating so much. I hope you find a solution and

have some success.
