I think she looks great. But saying that if you still want more correction, then i would go for it if you can. Then you wont have to ever wonder what if I had done another band.

Hi all,I have posted the photoes in a new album 'Adi before & After'My daughter graduated from DOC band 1 mth back. She had it for 3 mthsfrom 5 1/2 to 8 1/2 mths of age. Now she is 9 1/2 mths.Her measurements came down as follows :Cephalic Index - 2SD to 1SDCranial Vault Asymmetry - 11mm to 5mmEyes - 9mm to 1mmEars - 10mm to 0...I am amazed at the ear correction. Bcoz I was mostworried about it.When we got the band off, I had thought that we got the bestcorrection. As compared to her before measurements, the aftermeasurements were definitely good. But as I am looking at her headoften, I have started feeling that we could have got more correction inthe CVA..Atleast another 2/3 mm..Which would make a great diff...Butwhen we asked her cranial tech at her graduation, she said that at 5mm,they will not recommend 2nd band. Hi & Angie,

Thanks for your response. If we go for another band, my insurance is

not going to pay for it. We have Aetna HMO which requires the CVA

more than 6mm & baby under 1 year. For 1st band, they paid 100 %. But

for the 2nd one, they will not ...But I am even not sure whether the

CT will do 2nd band for her..Bcoz, last time only the technician told

that they will not like to do 2nd band...

I think we will consult CT, Phoenix and get her evaluated

again....Will decide after that...

correction. As compared to her before measurements, the after

measurements were definitely good. But as I am looking at her head

often, I have started feeling that we could have got more correction

in

the CVA..Atleast another 2/3 mm..Which would make a great diff...But

when we asked her cranial tech at her graduation, she said that at

5mm,

they will not recommend 2nd band. Even her paediatrcian thinks that

she

doe snot need another band...But as a mom, I continue to think that if

they would have advice us another band, we could get her head near

normal...

It will be great if you look at her photes & comment on the progress

What does CT say is the reason they wouldn't like to do a 2nd band?

Do they not think you'd see correction? We liked the CT in

Hi ,

Actually we also liked CT, Phoenix & we are very hapy with the

correction what we got. If she would have worn the 1st band for full

16 weeks, she would have got more correction. But she outgrew the

band in 12 weeks.

Y'day we had talk with the patient co-ordinator. She says tht Adi has

got max correction with the 1st band & at 5mm, they do not recommend

banding even for new patients. Bcoz 5mm is near normal for them. 2day

her techinician (Mendy) is going to call us regarding this.

But I was thinking we can get more correction in her brachy also.

(cephalic index 1.5SD from normal)..We are still doing repo for her .

But that is possible only during night time as she has started

walking now..I wish we should get little more correction bcoz of

repo..Let's see wht her tech thinks..I will update after that..

Hi,

Just to update..We had a talk with her CT tech. She says that 5mm

diff in CVA is such small, that when they scan her head for making

helmet, they can't pick up the difference..So it is very difficult to

understand the pressure points & make a new helmet. So they will not

be sure exactly where are they going to keep the pressure points..

But we have scheduled a consultation on Monday..We will go for it &

see..

I wonder if they would be able to pick up the pressure points and

how to make a new helmet if they casted her? I only ask because the

scanning thing is new to the CT in Phoenix. My son was casted both

for his initial (Feb '07) and his exit (April '07). Maybe something

to ask. Good luck at your consultation and like Angie said let us

Hi All,

Just wanted to update about my daughter's consultation at CT,

Phoenix. They had scheduled us with the owner of CT.It was very

very nice to talk to her. She spent good amount of time with us &

explained everything in details. She is the senior most orthotist.

She told us the same thing that they will not advice band for 5mm

diff in CVA...She says that at such minor difference, 2nd band can

worsten the headshape if they don't get good pressure points. Also

good news is Adi's cephalic index has also come down from 1.53 to

1.50 in last month without band. According to her, she may improve on

her own if we continue to do repo at night..But definitley it will

not worsten.

She also told that they don't want to mess the good job which they

have already done & it would be unethical to do 2nd band for near

normal CVA...

So at the end, we are satisfied with what she discussed with us..We

need to accept the plagio & only hope that as time goes, she will

improve on her own & it will not be noticable bcoz of her hair..

Hi Deepa. I think Adi looks good but I know we are all most critical

of ourselves and our children. We just want them to have perfect

noggins.

My DS is at 5mm CVA and +2SD 92.1brachy. He just finished up his 2nd

helmet and is being casted for his third on Wed. I also go to

Cranial Tech. They said they don't think he needs a third helmet but

its up to us. They said there will be some correction t hey are just

not sure how much. But after reading your post I am a little

nervous. Is there a chance the 3rd band will make things worse? My

DH says they would have told us if that were the case. Ughhh I am

such a worry wart. I wonder why they wouldn't have been able to

atleast do the helmet for your daughter to improve the brachy? Also

it seems like your orthotist said she can still receive correction

w/o the band. My orthotist says that whatever his head shape is

after the band is what it will be. Ughhh so confusing. Its really

hard to know what to do.

The reason we decided to try the third band was because DS is still

receiving noticable correction after every adjustment we felt we

should keep trying but your post has me nervous.

I wouldn't worry about the 3rd band making it worse. 5mm is pretty

close to normal, 92% is still in the brachy range. I'm sure CT would

have told you if there were any problems making a 3rd band for him.

My daughter had severe brachy and got down to about 86%. At 92% I

would probably try for additional correction too.

Hi ,

I am sorry if my post has confused you. But I only wanted to say that

Ct thinks my daughter does not need 2nd band bocz it is too diff to

make proper headband for 5mm CVA & 1.5SD brachy..( Both the

measurements fall in no band range ). So if the helmet does not fit

good, the headshape can be worse..

But in your case, the brachy is still +2 SD & I think it is in band

range..So I completely agree with that you may go ahead

with the 3rd band. One thing for sure...CT people are very very sure

about what they do & they do a very ethical practice. If they were

not sure, they would not be ready for the 3rd band..

I hope I have cleared my point..Best wishes for your 3rd band..Hope

you get more correction in the CVA also..
