I have to admit that plastic surgery is something that I'm considering after

I get to goal and have maintained for a while. I'm larged busted as well and

even when thinner am in a D or DD cup. I'm 5'9 " and medium to large boned.

If I don't drop below a DD cup when I'm at goal, I'm going to look into

reduction surgery as well. Given my frame, I think I'd be happy with a C

cup. And if I go this route and have some loose skin, I'll probably check

into having that nipped up as well.

I didn't see the special though I've read a lot about gastric bypass

surgery. (I even had a doctor try to push it on me once.) That would be a

tough decision to make. For me, that would be a last-ditch effort... I'm not

ready to give up on WWers and more natural methods of weight loss yet. The

potential complications are what scare me the most. I know that there have

been many people who have successfully undergone this procedure and say it

has saved their lives... but it is just too drastic a measure for me right

now.

On a related note... a friend of mine was just telling me about her cousin

who had undergone gastric bypass several years ago. She was initially around

450 lbs and got down around 170 after the surgery. However, now she has

gained everything back and then some. So while bypass surgery has helped a

lot of people, it didn't help this gal in the long term.

RE: question for the 'big losers' out

Surgery is a really personal decision and I believe everyone has to make

that decision themselves. I am one that personally believes that beauty

comes from within and laugh lines on a womens face are the beautiful

reminder of who they are and where they have been. I probably won't ever

color my hair or have cosmetic surgery on my face.

However, I can tell you (And much to the argument of many friends and

family!) that when I get within 10 to 20 pounds of my goal weight I will be

looking into surgery. I have issues that can't be dealt with any other way

and I am not happy with them.

I am large busted (Currently wearing a 42 BB) always have been even when I

was not overweight. (Wore a 36 D) I have back problems and I have really

grown fond of running. I LOVE to run and feel that I could do it a LOT

more comfortable and effective if I have a breast reduction. In addition,

with the birth of my 3 child who was almost 11 pounds (And my second child

was ten pounds!) my stomach went completely to pot. The more weight I lose,

the worse it gets and I am not comfortable with that so I will have tummy

tuck at some point.

Having said that- did anyone see the Dateline Special Friday night about

gastric bypass? That was really scary-that would be a hard decision to make.

I've lost 107 and I have some loose skin on my belly, a little in my

arms, and some on the tops of my thighs. I'll never be a swimsuit

model, that's for sure! But I look fine in my clothing and I'm more

concerned with my health than anything else.

Would I get surgery if someone else paid for it? Probably. I've looked

into a skin reduction and it's around $8000 and I just can't justify

that for vanity...not on a teacher's salary. I also just can't imagine

doing such a huge surgery voluntarily after how long I spent in the

hospital last year.

I am supposed to have hernia surgery in January or February and the

doctor said he'd take off some of my extra tummy skin, so that should

help with the blousing. I think that's my biggest issue. When I wear

pants that fit I have skin that blouses over the top.

I don't think gastric bypass is the easy way out, by any means, but

just like any kind of weight loss...if you don't change your habits

you're not going to remain successful. I too know a lady who had it

and initially lost quite a lot...actually two ladies. They are both

now severly obese again. The last time I saw one of them she was

having to hold onto chairs to walk just about 50 feet because she is

so heavy and has such bad foot problems (related to her obesity).

Imagine if instead of having the surgery, she'd put her money into

counseling and learned how to use food properly and find herself

valuable enough to deal with her food issues NOT just her weight

issues. I know she'd be a lot happier now.

The other lady dealt with many many issues (diarrhea, stomach upset

constantly, vomiting) mainly because she still tried to eat the same.

Heck, I even saw Carnie on Dr. Phil a few weeks back and she

STILL tries to eat the same stuff and has to fight it all the time,

and has gained some back (but is determined to get back down and not

regain). It is not an easy fix!
