Guest guest
Vera, When my mother Joyce aspirated in the hospital, she ended up in ICU in a coma. There was no question about whether to stop the respirator. I am sure she wouldn't have lasted the day on her own anyway. But this year I was faced with the decision about when to let go of my beloved dog, Mrs. Beasley, who was with me when we pulled the plug as well as by my side at my mother's funeral. She, herself, was in the end stages of bladder cancer at the time. I know a dog is not a person, but my Beasley was like a child to me (and I have two human ones, so I know). The day I let her go was no different really from the day before it and probably the day after it. But I finally knew for sure two things: there were no more good days left --not good in any conceivable way. And everything in the future was absolutely terrible. Why would I let her go on just to face that awful place ahead of her (she was in the beginning stages of irreversible kidney failure) with no hope of balancing it with something good. That was the standard that worked for me. I believe I would use the same one with any loved one. I hope I haven't offended you in any way by using Mrs. Beasley's case. She meant the world to me. I wish you a Fred a good new year. Debbie
