Is your baby exclusively breastfed? And what are they considering constipation? Is your baby straining and producing dry hard pellet-like poops? Or simply going a few days between bowel movements? If it is the second, then she is not truly constipated.

And you are right, no water before 6 months of age.

Hello All!!

Does anyone know of a natural remedy for constipation?? My dd's doctor prescribed some suppositories but I would rather not use them. Also she told me to give her water, I thought they got all the water and fliud they needed from Breatmilk? Is this not right? Thank you in advance!!!

she is now 12 months old. She has eaten solids for about 3 months. She is straining, but has not had a bowel movement in 6 days, she usually goes 3 days between. Should I give her water? Thanks for your help :)

Sorry, had a brain lapse. LOL was thinking that with a 12/99 birthday that she was only a few weeks old! :)

There are many solids that are binding. Applesauce, bananas, rice cereal...these are a few of the typical first foods that can cause problems. I did offer water or EBM in a cup during meal time.

I was going to say the same thing. It is very rare for an exclusively bf baby to be truely constipated. I only ever had to deal with it in my oldest and he was formula fed. My dr suggested putting a dab of vaseline in his rectum to make it easier for the poop to come out.

I don't think water will help, how about foods that make you go like prunes? Would she eat them?

Any fruit will be helpful, especially peaches and raisins, fruit naturally

high in iron. (Strange, that high-iron fruits help you go while some

iron supplements constipate you...) And water would be fine, not at

all a problem, especially since she's eating solid foods and isn't exclusively

breastfed. (If she was exclusively bf'd, giving her water would take

away from the BM she would eat, and would be unnecessary.)

I have always heard & been told to basically never give honey to a child under 1 year due to the potential for allergies. I don't know if this applies or not, but wanted to throw it out. I haven't seen the original post. Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

I know that several of you are using digital scales in your chapters - - - can you please tell me what kind you use? Are you using the Tanita scales recommended by TOPS? And if so, which model? Looks like the most practical one is the BWB 800S which weighs up to 440 pounds for $295.00 - - - another one weighs up to 600 pounds, but it is $510!!!!

Thanks for helping me out here!!!!!!

Clara, Kathie S. found a really nice one for our chapter. It was really priced and weighs (I think) 400 pounds. Check with her. Clara,

I personally bought one that was listed in a brochure that came to me as a TOPS

leader. I bought it with my own money as at that time we had only 3 active

members,

including myself. I take it back and forth with me each week. I would now like

for the

chapter to buy it, but I don't know how to ask them to do it and not sound like

a

cheapskate.

It is a Health-O-Meter and cost about $170 as best as I can remember. I know it

was

under $200. It is model # 349 and I know that because everytime you power it up,

the

numerals " 349 " come on the screen and lots of people think that is its capacity,

but it

isn't. It's just the model number appearing. I can look up the price, but I'm

too lazy

right now. It weighs up to 400 pounds. I'm happy with it. It weighs in 0.2 pound

increments.

Thanks, Kathleen - - - I'll look up the scale you told me about - and thanks a bunch for your response.

And hey, there is no reason for you to feel like a cheapskate in asking the TOPS chapter to pay for the scale - - - every chapter is supposed to buy it's own scale!
