Guest guest
Ken, I must admit I have been a bit " skittish " about the band. I have told a select few close group of friends. The reason I have been a bit reserved about it is from fear that it won't work and then I'll look like a $7000 poorer fat idiot! However, as the success is becoming more and more obvious I am disclosing to more and more people. I have decided from now on to tell anyone who asks. I want to " save " as many people as I can. I think the more demand there is for the band, the more the medical profession will get their act together and help people like me. Steph. Guest guest
I tell the truth: I eat less and more of the right foods! Tis not a lie. Personally, I don't think it's anyone's business but that's what I say if they ask. I have told 2 potential bandsters of the surgery for their own info. This is sort of a private surgery, elective and I think you get into vanity accusations if you approach everyone with it. My personal experience anyway. GOOD NEWS: I was just asked to model for a French Lingerie shop here in town at a show in San Francisco!!! Yeh!! A not as a BBW!!! Debi Mahler, Mahler & Co. Guest guest
Ken, Whew!! This site is getting better all the time! Regarding telling: I didn't tell anybody, not even my wife--and everybody still found out!! She went to Hawaii for 2 weeks with her Mum, and thought I was going to remodel the bathroom while she was gone. Not so. The next day I jetted to Stockholm and got my band. Probably hard to imagine :-) but, I was really in some deep trouble for doing that. Now my family views me as an extremist psycho. They notice that I don't gulp down 4-5 servings to their one on family occasions (which always include food), and they certainly notice that I've lost 75 pounds in less than 4 months--but don't understand that it would be IMPOSSIBLE without the band. They wonder why I didn't just use a little more restraint and eat " sensibly " like this before. I don't choose to tell them that I truly was psycho as far as not having control over what and how much I ate. It is already obvious they don't really want to understand. Oh well?! With this experience, would I do it differently if I had it to do over again? Absolutely YES! I would do it YEARS SOONER! but still feel SECRECY and DECEPTION are best (for me). --steve P.S. When do you expect the action to really start on this site? Think they will let us post some candid shots of old girl friends? We can put a black ink-bar across their faces. I can hardly wait? I've got a full-butt moon shot of me just the day before surgery (nice ass--and lots of it!!). Think that would interest any of the ladies? That would really be a cool photo if we could post with sound. I'll bring the popcorn. Can you cat-call? This is going to be as much fun as the time I watched the hogs eat my little brother! Think the guys should start posting the sizes of their athletic cups? I wonder if the ladies know that, as we loose weight, that area of our anatomy becomes increasingly larger? Maybe we could initiate a co-ed endeavor--something like posting photos for a flap-size contest. If we had a purse, maybe we could apply it to the expense of a tummy tuck for the winner. Maybe we could get better public attention if we started having our flaps tanned after tummy tucks and begin an international " Bandsters Flap-Quilt " . Whew! I think I'd better take a rest. I'm really getting on a roll here, and I'm afraid my momentum may have already taken me too far and ruined my hard earned reputation for being " quiet gentle steve in lurker land " . :-) Ken Earl wrote: > > > So you show N tell!!! Guest guest
Denny It is to say sad, not that we have found the way to be thin again but that we cant seem to communicate the feeling for the fear of being scoffed at for not going the natural way of weight loss which just doesn't seem to work for us.Everybody has their own opinion of how to go about it and in some cases it works for them but for them to look and say well just why cant you do this it works for me is a big lack of communication. when they haven't walked a mile in your shoes. Been there done that and it doesn't work for me! so just keep quite and keep smiling! Guest guest
, We don't " talk " about the bathroom around here very much, but actually, I was suppose to finish the remodel which I started 3 years ago. Everything works, it just isn't pretty. But to answer your question: Nope, I haven't done a thing to it for 3 years....but, soon--maybe. --steve Dave & Neale wrote: > > > But did the bathroom ever get remodelled? > Regards > > At 08:34 AM 7/04/1999 -0700, you wrote: > > > > > >I think I creative a monster!!!!!! Guest guest
hi All I have no intention of telling anyone except my daughter and my man. They have to know because they are involved in the arrangements. As far as everyone else is concerned, I am going on holiday to France with a friend and that's it. When the weight starts to drop off I'm afraid I am going to take the credit for it. After all, it's me who will be making the sacrifices. I don't want anyone to think that because I have a band that it is 'easy', I know that it's not going to be easy. So there! Guest guest
Oh yes, I understand that. I actually ask myself that question .... why do I actually need the band? I am quite capable of going on a diet and losing weight .... I've done it loads of times - and that's my point, I want to lose the weight and KEEP it off. I know that most people will not understand why I have to resort to surgery for something that 'just requires a little willpower'. I live with a saboteur who doesn't deliberately sobotage my efforts at losing weight, he is just being kind. When I physically cannot eat I think he will stop 'being kind'. 28 days and counting. Guest guest
Hi Everyone: I've been reading everyone's answers to the " do you tell " question and it saddens me to think that we need to keep our weight loss reasons a secrect from people who can't understand or are too judgemental. I see so much love and support in this group that I think that we should all be standing on soap boxes in malls yelling that yes, there is an answer for people who are obese, and we know what it is. But instead, we have to keep cool about the whole thing and be very selective about who knows and who doesn't. Hopefully, we will be able to help each other through the good and bad times, and maybe if enough people are pushing for these different surgeries, someday it will be just as common as an appendectomy. Wouldn't that be nice for everyone? So, as secretive as we have been about our failures with obesity, we must continue to be that way with our successes, because unless you've been there, felt the pain, frustration, embarrassment, guilt, and sorrow, you will never understand. It just doesn't seem fair to me. When I told my father that during the first month I would be on liquids, and on the second month soft food, he asked " why can't you just do that now without surgery " I answered, " I don't know " Denny ---------- > > To: bandsters (AT) onelist (DOT) com > Subject: Re: Do you tell? > Date: April 7, 1999 11:20 AM > > > > Ya', we are picked on and misunderstood! Guest guest
At first I was very secretive- first only my boyfriend, then my parents, now all my family and some friends know... and i talk about it freely- and i think my uncle expresses best what made me tell evreyone: this means that first of all i have discovered what my problem was (compulsive eating disorder) and am admitting what is obvious to everyone- that i need to lose weight (it's obvious but i never talked about it) and second of all, i have a way. I mean, i am not just going around saying " i need to lose weight " but i am saying proudly- yes, i have a problem, i have a found a way to fight and win- and i am going through with it no matter how difficult it is... So... i have no problems talking about it anymore and since i am so positive and determined about it no-one (almost) dares to question my decision or anything- everyone is amazingly supportive ! .... my story... ~ Dorit in Israel
