Guest guest
, I get nausea and all kinds of indigestion when hypo. It is due to slowed stomach emptying. There really isn't a whole lot you can do about it. My endo recommended Pepcid AC twice a day and Gaviscon in between. It seemed to help a little bit. Guest guest
, During my hypo phase (after surgery pre-RAI), I too was nauseous....daily, for 6 weeks so I know how bad you feel. I was just reading some archived messages on this subject and many people mentioned that ginger in any form (giner ale, ginger tea) helps with nauseau. For me, the only thing that felt semi-good was root beer, and chocolate milk on ice (weird, I know, but whatever works). I hope you can find some relief. Hang in there. Guest guest
Hello - Speaking from having morning sickness all day throughout the better part of four months of two pregnancies . . . These were some things that helped: Wint-O-Green lifesavers Lemon drops Lemonade soda (Sunkist brand) My physician with my first baby prescribed Vistaril. Second physician wouldn't prescribe, but suggested benadryl and it worked quite well, amazingly. I also noticed that ice water was a bad idea. Lukewarm or room temperature water went down and stayed down much easier. My TT is on Monday, I am hoping and praying that nausea is not part of my hypo-experience! Best of luck to you. I know it sucks. Hang in there! in Nebraska > Has anyone had problems with nausea while going hypo? It's true that hypo nausea is due to slowed digestion, so eating small meals is probably the best way to go. Ginger is also often helpful, in any form - ginger ale (assuming it's really made from ginger, which it isn't always), ginger snaps, ginger tea (steep a chunk of ginger root in boiling water). There are also some ginger candies on the market, which can be helpful, and most of them are acceptable on the LID. There are some more recommendations at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Thyca/message/17032 ; this list was compiled in response to nausea after RAI, but the suggestions - and in many cases, the causes - are very much the same. Guest guest
Hi , Oh boy, do I know about bad digestive problems and hypo-ness!I had nausea, acid reflux, and diarrhea. Still do, but to a much lesser degree. I'm still trying to get my meds right. Ask your doctor to prescribe something right away, based on your particular symptoms. No need to be uncomfortable any longer than you have to. For me, he prescribed Nexium, and it worked like a charm. You might need something different since your main symptom is nausea. Some people do fine just adding ginger (ale, candies, cooking with) to calm the tummy. If you're hesitant to try medicines, start with the ginger remedies. You'll know pretty quickly if it works. Welcome to the " better living through chemistry " crowd. Don't hesitate to use the resources available. Most likely, your upset will be for the short term, and as you get the proper amount of hormone your symptoms should disappear. Joanne > Has anyone had problems with nausea while going hypo? Guest guest
Quoting Anne Klutts : Try anything with ginger in it. It works wonders. Kelley > > > > > , > > Â Â I got nausea while I was hypo . When I'm feeling queasy (for whatever reason, though I'm NOT talking pg morning sickness here!), I like ice cold sodapop! Not too much at once, but it has to be Really Cold. After my TT, I didn't have a nausea problem, but I did have a swallowing-hurt-like-hell problem, and the only thing I could tolerate was ice-water. That wasn't a tummy problem but a throat problem. Anything I managed to swallow at least stayed down. bj
Guest guest
I felt quite sick while hypo, and I found travel sickness pills did the trick. I found some herbal ones that work on the symptoms (ie stomach). Ones that work on the inner ear/balance reasons for travel sickness obviously don't work directly on hypo-induced nausea. I don't know if those bracelets you can buy that work on pressure points would be useful? Guest guest
I too get nausea while hypo and it increases the more hypo I get. I have tried ginger, which helps temporarily, and OTC nausea preps. However, both times I received I131 treatment, I asked my doctor (primary or endo) for serious nausea medicine to stop it so that I would be sure to keep the I131 down. Then I continued that med until I ran out or the nausea let up. I also had it really bad this year *after* the I131 to the point of needing - gosh! I forget the name of the med - in suppository form in the hospital in order to keep my water down so that the radiation could be excreted enough so that I could go home! I had to stay an extra day because of not being able to keep down enough water. :/ Once I got home, I soaked in Dead Sea Salts which extracted enough radiation from my body to be able to stop the anti-nausea meds. I think if I am in that dilemma again, I'll take more showers or figure out some way to put the salts on my body during the shower. Might work. I lost several pounds both years pretty much due to nausea...not that *that* is a bad thing! The summary? Don't be afraid to ask for prescription meds for nausea, especially before taking the radioactive iodine and afterwards too. take care, tt 2/02 rai 167.5 4/02 rai 189 3/03 > Date: Thu, 17 Jul 2003 15:13:56 EDT > From: ChristiNorman@... > Subject: Re: Help!
