Guest guest
Hi Christy I started taking pred in July at 60 mg per day for 3 wks, then increased it to 75 mg per day for 2 wks because I had a nose flare. then I started tapering off at 5 mg per week, by the time I got to 45 mg I was not feeling well due to the side effects, so my rheumy advised me to drop to 30 mg per day and continue tapering off by 5 mg weekly. I didn't have any ill effects by doing that, but the danger is once you hit 20 mg, then taper off very, very slowly. I had all the side effects, which are almost as insidious as the disease you are taking it for, but...... I had to re-start the pred in Dec, due to another suspected flare, and now I'm tapering off again, I'm at 10 mg, however, I'm not on metho, but I do take Minocin which is the antiobiotic protocol. I'm on a trial basis to see if it will help... I'm not actively flaring at the moment, however, all my joint pain I had are gone, with the exception of my lower back when I'm standing or walking for too long. good luck with your doctor... take care luv Carmela ************************** Reply-To: Rpolychondritis (AT) e To: Rpolychondritis (AT) e Subject: Re: Re: Christy Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 17:08:54 -0500 Nope. I called yesterday and left messages. no call yesterday. I called this morning and she (the nurse that I trust) said he and the Otolaryn-something-or-other (fancy ENT) have been going over my file since first thing this morning and they will call me soon. That was at 10 am. I'm calling my GP tomorrow and getting a regular dose of pred since that worked. Seems the 25 mg was what worked and when I tapered, I swelled. Damn the consequences if he (RD) can't see fit to call me after a week of leaving messages for him. Oh. Do I seem angry? LOL Question: those of you on prednisone, how much do you take? Anyone on prednisone and methotrexate? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
