I tried to search the existing messages for " smell, " but the server was down, so I figured I'd post anyway. Thanks! Guest guest Posted July 15, 2007 Report Share Posted July 15, 2007 Believe it or not, but my son's head and helmet don't stink that bad anymore. I think once they get used to it they sweat a lot less. I was taking the helmet off every hour to wipe the sweat and once or twice a day I would use the alcohol to clean it. Others swear by sun bleaching it. I never had his helmet off during good sun hours so I didn't try it. Others say to also use a really nice smelling shampoo but Chad has eczema and it made it worse. I also don't bring him out of the AC much now. Good luck. Setting it out in the sun does work to get rid of the smell for a while but then they sink it back up again. I used the and Lavender night-time shampoo/baby wash or the Soothing Naturals during bath time. I've heard people put it in the sun to dry (which means you'd have to clean it during the day)...I never did this as we bathed our son at night. You can use the 91% alcohol instead of the 70%. You can also periodically wipe sweat from the band and Mateo's head with a dry cloth through the day. Hopefully, one of those tips will help.
