Guest guest
Just got the official diagnosis for my son on Friday. They suggested a helmet at 6 months of age and physio immediately. He is 4 1/2 months old now. Any suggestions from experienced moms who have been through this? Needless to say, I am concerned. We atart physio on Wednesday. My doctor gave us the stretches to do at home but I feel that I need someone to walk me through them a little more. I am afraid that I will hurt my son by doing the stretches incorrectly. Also, we have a holiday planned for 5 weeks this summer, about 2 weeks after he will get his helmet. Is tis wise? Should I stick close to home in case we need adjustments? I am feeling a little overwhelmed because I was given the diagnosis and then told to return to the plastic surgeon in August (helmet in July). Any advice would be appreciated! Guest guest
Welcome! This is a great group of parents who are all going thru or have been thru tort and/or plagio. As far vacation - if it's far and you will be gone for 5 weeks - then I'd say makeother arrangments and /or see if there is a facility near your vacation spot. Or wait and start treatment after your vacation. Depending on the band you will need to go into see the ortho every 2 weeks to get adjustments. And if any issues come up like a red spot that does not fade you will need to go in more often. Who are you getting the band from? Guest guest
I am getting the band from an orthotics place in London, Ontario (Canada). I am still unsure all of the particulars about the helmet, I was just shown it briefly and get all of the info at the end of May. Thanks for the advice! > > Welcome! Guest guest
My son is 4 months and a week old with positional plagio. We just got the helmet last week. He’s worn it all day long for the past three days and tonight is his first night in it. He went to sleep just now (about 15 minutes early) - with no fusses. He’s had no problem with the helmet at all – not one tear. It’s harder on us than it is on them. I was a mess before we made our decision and now I’m so happy we did it. I cried for a week and then once he got it, he didn’t even notice it. I don’t think you will want to take a long vacation, but that’s just me. I think you may want to be close to ortho and doctors. Also, they can’t be in the heat too long with the helmet, so depending on what you have planned for your vacation, it may not work anyhow. Unfortunately we will be inside, in the air conditioning, most of the summer. Also, you may want to look into getting the helmet now. Why do they want you to wait? There is a lot of growth between 4 and 6 months. We were really happy to know that and get the helmet now, but every case is different obviously. , Michigan Noah, 4 months, Plagio On 5/14/07 4:38 PM, " jacknmarksmom " <jacknmarksmom@...> wrote: I am getting the band from an orthotics place in London, Ontario (Canada).
