I asked them about the discrepancy and our orthotist said that she likes to leave the babies in it longer to be sure they don't regress when they are so young when they start. (Mine was also 5 months when he started, with 12mm asymmetry). At the two week adjustment (where that two weeks included a ramp-up period... so maybe 9-10 days of 23/7), his asymmetry was down to somewhere between 5 and 6mm. I think you should see amazing improvement with your daughter being so young. If they need to keep her in it longer than 8 weeks to get the results you want, I'm sure they can. He experienced no regression. Regression is very rare (1%) and usually it is more common in the babies iwth unresolved torticollis or those that graduate at a very young age. Good luck. Anabel is at 12.5 mm asymmetry and will be 7.5 months old by the time she is first fitted fo the band. They said that she would wear it for 3-4 months. WHy do they quote this time frame? Is it just a guess since it might only be one or two months, so expectations don't get skewed? Anabel is getting a Star Band. What should I be asking at the fitting appointment? Guest guest Posted February 15, 2008 Report Share Posted February 15, 2008 I would think some orthos give " longer " so parents aren't disappointed when they find out their child needs another month or so. With DOC, we were told 3 1/2 months and our son was 7.5 months when he got his band. He hit great growth spurts and graduated in 8 weeks. We may have kept the band on longer but he outgrew it in that amount of time. His assemtry to begin with was 8mm and got down to 3mm.
