Guest guest
Dr Cohen recommended Creatine for me a few months ago. He was very specific about which brand to use. You purchase it at GNC and it's called Pro Performance Creatine Monohydrate. Alice creatine....conference issue Barbara, YW....Honestly there was not a lot of " discussion " about creatine at the conference. Just a comment by Dr. Cohen in his symptom management session that it now appears it is beneficial and can be used long term in mito patients. I suspect we will see/hear more about this in the near future. I have been on creatine monohydrate (7 grams/day) since 2000 during/after a bout of endocarditis. Dr. Cohen and my local neuro have kept me on it because I seem to do better and my pulmonary function suffers when I'm off of it. My nutritionist doc recommended the ProLab version (pricey), but does seem pure and consistent. Mine is taken in through my J-tube so it bypasses the stomach acids. Do you have a nutritionist you can work with on this issue? Kristie Kristie, Tks so much for your post. I have some additional questions > about the creatine discussions at the conference. > > 1. Guest guest
Hi Alice. I had my weekly massage which certainly helped today, but I'm still recovering from pneumonia and I'd imagine it's going to take several weeks just like last time. Overall, I'm just excessively tired but I wouldn't have missed the conference no matter what. Obviously for those who have attended in the past, not a lot of new material. This was my first conference however and I'm thankful for the opportunity. bug

No, I don't have a nutritionist...not sure there is such an animal locally. Probably would have to go to the big city. We may try the creatine in my j- tube--I wasn't sure my gut would be happy with that but sounds like you are tolerating it fine. Guest guest
Tks, I'll check out the site. Definitely no bolus feedings for J- tubes!! I will try adding it to my nighttime pump/drip, but will start adding very small amounts and work up to full dose. Creatine does upset my stomach which is one reason I wondered if it wwould make the gut more unhappy than usual, even in a slow drip. But worth a try.
