Guest guest
Hi All, I got back from the conference and trip to NY just in time for Hurricane Charley. For those of you who pray, please include Florida in your prayers. We are in for some really nasty weather here in Bradenton and probably worse just north of us. This is very unusual for this area. We never get bad ones here. On another note, I have been having major blood pressure issues for months now. Today at my doctor's appointment (GYN), my blood pressure was 170/130. I have had intermittent high blood pressure for a while now but that's the highest. I really don't think its has anything to do with the hurricane. I didn't know how bad it was going to be until after the appointment and wasn't really worried. My doctor canceled my appointment for tomorrow because its along the beach so I won't be seeing her until Wednesday (if there is an office still there to go to). My eye doctor also told me Monday that my retinal vessels were narrowed and that I was at risk for a blood clot. Does anyone have any of these symptoms? Does this sound like autonomic dysfunction like has been suggested to me with my other symptoms? I did go to the ER but was told I had a 7 hour wait and might get trapped there by the hurricane. I have a daughter and felt this wasn't a good choice so I came home where I'm comfortable. I do have an ER five minutes away if I get desperate so I think I made the right decision. Any suggestions on treatments? My doctors are not mito experts and not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated. S PS It was great to meet everyone at the conference! I was a bit disappointed with it on a whole but it was great networking and meeting new people.
Guest guest
It was great seeing you at the conference. My blood pressure use to be very low, but gradually crept up over time and I am now on blood pressure meds. It still bounces around which is probably due to the dysautonomia. I was told that whatever the cause, it should be treated. I will have you and all in Florida in my thoughts and prayers. Please let us know how you are when you can. I know that power might be an issue, but maybe you can call someone who can let us know. Guest guest
Hi , It was good meeting you at the conference! I'm glad to hear you got home okay, but hope that the hurricaine doesn't cause too much damage for you. I had intermittent high blood pressure in my early twenties that would go as high as 170/110. My norm is opposite that at 110/70 ish so this was much higher than usual for me. It would happen for several weeks at a time and go back to normal. During those weeks, when it got really high my heart rate would go up, I would start sweating, get short of breath and get headaches. I went to the ER several times b/c my doctors were concerned and the ER told me there was nothing they could do b/c it wasn't an acute crisis. For me, the BP changes were from autonomic dysfunction and it got better once I was on a BP med to control it. I would definitely have your BP re-checked in a day or two. The numbers you were getting are pretty high and would be concerning. Do you have a BP monitor at home? Stay safe this week! Please let us know that you got through the hurricaine okay once it passes through. Malisa
Guest guest
Hi , Glad to hear that you made it back safely from the Conference. It was so nice meeting you and having dinner with you and the other (aka Hanna) I am sorry but I can't help you with your blood pressure issues, I have low blood pressure. But I would say that if you continue to have any symptoms of high blood pressure to go to the ER. Please don't wait too long, especially if you aren't feeling good. I have been watching the weather channel and keeping track of Hurricane Charley. It sounds like he is going to reek some havoc on Florida. We are getting the strong high winds from Bonnie and I guess they think that both storms will hit us with heavy rains that will result in flooding, and hail and strong winds. We got a preview of it tonight, with huge hail balls, and strong winds and heavy rain. It come on all of a sudden. So I am worried about you and everybody else in the way of Charley. I hope and pray that everybody is safe. My prayers go out to you and your family. Be safe, and update us when you can. Guest guest
-Hi jennifer, i too have high BP (whether it's due to my illness- not yet diagnosed as mito) or from inheriting my dad's high BP, but I have been treated for it now for about 15 years. It has gotten worse over time and the docs have altered my meds accordingly. High BP is not something to be ignored regardless of the cause. I'll be thihnking of you and praying that the hurricaen isn't too bad, Celia--
