Guest guest
Laurie, the results were read by a sleep specialist and that is who said that it was a abnormal study consistent with the airway resistance. It is the neuro that is at a loss as what to do, I wonder if he should call the sleep study doctor, the one that read the test.
Guest guest
I agree with Alice. You need to have a pulmonologist look at the results. I have never heard of results being released without being read by a sleep specialist. laurie > From: MitomomX3@... > Reply-To: > Date: Wed, 29 Sep 2004 19:57:54 EDT > To: > Subject: : please help with sleep study results > > Hello. > My neurologist just phoned me with the results of my sleep study that I had > two weeks ago. > He said he had no idea what they meant and didnt know what to do to help. > He phoned my Primary doc and spoke to him also. > The results state: > Abnormal study consistent with Upper airway resistive syndrome. > there were several episodes of hypoxemia present periidically. > > My neuro said perhaps it is just ashtma but somehow that doesnt seem right > as i dont have asthma . Guest guest
I would say you need an appointment with the specialist to have them interpret the results for you and the neuro. That would be a great first step, or you could even call the sleep study center and ask them if they have the name of a pulmonologist. My uncle just had an abnormal sleep study, but he was already seeing a pulmonologist, *after* his primary care doctor got him a trach tube without a pulmonologist consult. Some times my big mouth gets me in trouble, but mostly I am able to get things done with a few phone calls instead of waiting for the medical professionals to do their job. Doesn't hurt to ask. I believe that any of us that have skeletal muscle weakness could have weakness in the diaphragm and other breathing muscles, so treating a mito patient with " breathing resistance " may be different than treating a regular patient with the same diagnosis. Take care, RH
Guest guest
I have had two different sleep doctors over the years. One was a neuro who specialized in sleep abnormalities and my current on is a pulmonologist. I had follow up appointments with them after my sleep studies. They were and are the ones treating me for the sleep problems. I would ask for the neuro to talk with the sleep doc or ask that the sleep doc make recommendations to the neuro and you. I have not heard of anyone who has had a sleep study without having appointments with the one who is reading the study. Your situation seems a bit out of the ordinary. laurie > From: MitomomX3@... > Reply-To: > Date: Thu, 30 Sep 2004 00:10:51 EDT > To: > Subject: Re: : please help with sleep study results > > Laurie, > the results were read by a sleep specialist and that is who said that it was > a abnormal study consistent with the airway resistance. > It is the neuro that is at a loss as what to do, I wonder if he should call > the sleep study doctor, the one that read the test. > > > >
