I want my family to not be afraid of my son and not to run from our lives now

that he has been diagnosed. My own mother, my sons grandmother, who loved

him the first two years of his life, now wants little to do with him and ignores

him. She thinks he doesnt feel anything now that ..

i cant go on will reply later.

Thank you for your note, however I have found little solace in your words.

My entire family has not been here for us and is now actually shunning us.

My own sister says she's sorry, but her and her son are just too

uncomfortable around us now.

My brother hasnt contacted me since the diagnosis.

My husbands family has not offered any help or contact, but a call or two.

My mom is avoidant and when we have seen her, ignores my son, who they before

adored each other, he now feels her indifference and has now lost interest in

her as well.

I want everyone out there to know that the dx of autism is horrible in

itself, but things could be worse if you do not have a supportive, loving

family. I

am living it every day and feel so alone.

God Bless

SWEETHEART, don't ever think that. everyone handles difficult situations

in their own way. maybe your mom just needs time to digest the autism

thing, she still loves your little cutie. please know that we are all

behind you. take care!!!

Your mother is exactly the kind of person we want at this event....

I am so sorry to hear about your lack of support from her, Kim. It must hurt you a great deal.

I am blessed to have a wonderfully supportive mother but pretty much nothing on my husband's side.

Please know that you are not alone...this is one of the purposes of this day...if we can maybe open up one relative's eyes that day, it will be worth it.

Tell us where they live. We'll all meet to go " jerk a knot in their

tail " . (just kidding. I was hoping to at least make you smile.)

cyber hugs from across town to you, Kim.

My parents and sister are supportive, but are over 600 miles away.

My brother is not interested, and seems to be missing the numerous

red flags going on in his own son who will be 2 next week. *sigh*

They are probably not really trying to shun you, but are probably having a

real hard time coping with the diagnosis. People cope with things in

different ways-some people use avoidance-others use denial-and some people

cry a lot but might not want to talk about it.

After your family has had time to adjust to this diagnosis, they might start

to be more supportive. I think them being educated and seeing things

improve will really help. They probably believe that your son has been

given a developmental death sentence and assume there is no hope. When they

realize that there is hope, it will make it easier for them to support you.

Anyhow, please take care and know that we are behind you

Bringing tables is not necessary.

Childcare will not be available until 12:40pm, so perhaps your other family

members can watch your kids if you want to help with set up/clean-up.

Thanks for offering. Please let Sandi- smazza@... -know when you

know your plans. Thanks!

I just want to thank everyone who baked or brought donations for the big day... I also would like to thank everyone for their help with set up and clean up. I really appreciated all of the help. Thank you.

To everyone who helped with the planning. What a great job and a huge success! It was a very heartfelt and sincere presentation.
