Guest guest
I have BC/BS and I go to Beaumont (on Coolidge) and it's not out of network. grant applications Does the letter from Dr. Solomon count as a diagnosis for ASD. Question does anyone out there go to Beaumont for the Communication Station and how satisfied have you been? Also I called BC/BS and they told me Beaumont is not a provider for speech they would be considered out of network this sounds fishy to me.Thanks for any and all input. Thanks,Marisa's Mom -
Guest guest
Hi , I loved Communication Station last year when was going there; I udnerstand now though, that Jeanine is gone (teacher) and is on maternity leave, so I don't know who the new staff members are....the staff, of course, has a lot to do with the program. I would highly recommend a visit to talk to them and watch their program ...they were very inviting of people watching to see if it would be a good fit. As for BCBS not being a provider, that sounds fishy to me too. We have Blue Choice, which is the POS for BCBS and they have been paying for speech (albeit after a huge struggle). You just have traditional BCBS or is it a PPO/POS of HMO of Blue Cross? -- grant applications Does the letter from Dr. Solomon count as a diagnosis for ASD. Guest guest
, In regards to the diagnosis, as long as it is from a doctor and it specifically spells out AUTISM as the diagnosis, then that would be sufficient. Any doctor is fine, but the diagnosis has to be from someone qualfied to issue such a diagnosis. A copy of any MET documention would also suffice. Autism is the key here, so that means pdd-nos, asperger's, etc... would not qualify for the grant, although we do welcome them all to our group. In regards to Communication Station, I personally do not have any children attending but I can tell you I have talked to many parents (some of whom I hope will eventually reply to you) and have heard nothing but absolutely wonderful things. In fact I don't believe I've ever heard anything bad about it....that says alot! I definately wou;d have pursued it had my own children not gotten into the schools I wanted. Cannto help you with the BCBS one....sorry! -----Original Message-----From: s bassin Sent: Monday, November 10, 2003 3:11 PMTo: everydayMiraclesAutism Subject: grant applicationsDoes the letter from Dr. Solomon count as a diagnosis for ASD. Guest guest
oh and yes, if Dr. Solomon diagnosed Marisa as ASD in writing, then his evaluation would count for the grant application. grant applications Does the letter from Dr. Solomon count as a diagnosis for ASD. Guest guest
It is PPO Blue Cross, they say they won't pay because she is under six and it was not caused by an accident, or mediaclly necessary. God I hate fighting with Blue Cross-I feel that this is one battle I will lose. Guest guest
First, of course, you can stop in Saturday to sign the petition, but why don't you stay for the whole presentation, if you can? Let me know if you want me to RSVP your name. Secondly, It does not sound like you are overdoing it with Marisa to me...you can always be the judge of that depending on whether or not she is seeming to be "burned out". I am a firm believer in early and intensive intervention as being key for our kids. For a year, when was 3, he was in preschool 2x/week, ABA at home 12-20 hours per week, speech 2/week, OT 2/week and we managed to fit in play dates and sunday school and trips to the zoo.....and I worked 30 hours per week at night. It was kind of crazy but I don't regret a minute of it. He needed every minute of the intervention. He had the busiest schedule of any kid I knew, but he seemed to thrive on it too. Now that he no longer needs such intensive services, we have backed off a LOT. He is down to speech once/week and that is going to be stopping soon too. The rest of his time is filled with regular kid stuff now. Just make sure everything is in balance, every kid needs down-time too! Guest guest
That is a standard excuse, unfortunately. Have you gotten to know anyone personally at Blue Cross? They are all just regular people who answer the phones and send out the rejection letters. Many of them have children with autism themselves. Rules can be bent (I know it, because I work in the business!). Appeals can be appealed, they can help you find a loophole if there is one to be found. Remember that you do have rights, and when you are denied, you can appeal, and then appeal and appeal and then finally when they are sick of you, they will often just pay the claims. Make sure that your diagnostic code is not autism. Try to find one person who you can talk to when you call. They will come to associate you as a person, not just a subscriber. Believe me, it can work. In the meantime, please do stop in to sign Michele's petition, and hopefully we won't have to go through such loopholes to get services for our children. You can also contact Kathy Neville, who is a wonderful advocate for parents fighting with insurance companies. I can get you her info if you want it. grant applicationsDoes the letter from Dr. Solomon count as a diagnosis for ASD.Question does anyone out there go to Beaumont for the Communication Station and how satisfied have you been? Guest guest
Please do RSVP for yourself so that you can at least make sure to get a resource folder. We have only a limited amount of these, will not be able to give them to people who have not RSVP'd. And please note -to everyone- we cannot take any more children in childcare. Thanks!
